The cause of liberalism is a preexisting condition, though, so it's covered anyways.

They are so very concerned for the liberal cause.

You know what's hurting conservatism? Conservatives.

Obamacare and actual liberalism are barely in adjoining area codes.

Whelp, nothing like hearing about how the "cause of liberalism" is hurt from a reactionary, right wing and religious fundamentalist news publication such as Newsmax. I'm SURE there is no vested agenda there.

AND, While we're on the subject of vested agendas, let's talk about how newsmax is running scams targeting the elderly.

Obamacare tried to boil the frog too quickly.  Now they're trying to turn down the heat with delays, "fixes" etc.  but it's too late.  The frog has jumped out of the pot; good luck trying to persuade him to get back into it.

/Liberal intentions are noble.  Liberal results are Obamacare

... because it's a give-away to private insurance companies that socializes their losses while privatizing their profits in exchange for only the most minimal improvements that should have been industry standards anyhow?

No, wait, it's just some moron complaining about the program having rollout issues like literally every government program ever to roll out.  Carry on, nothing of value to see here.

So Newsmax is running an article drawing heavily from a New Republic article that makes the argument that Obamacare hurts the cause of liberalism because "The nation would have been better off in the long run, he continues, if Obamacare had been anchored in the existing Medicare system." My world is spinning out of control here. I don't know what to believe anymore. Someone hold me.

Liberalism is hurt in the sense that you can say "Look at what happens when you listen to the Heritage Foundation!"

2013-11-26 12:54:35 PM
Obamacare has NOTHING to do with liberalism.  Absolutely nothing.

The PPACA is a right wing Republican idea that was co-opted -- very unwisely, in my opinion -- by the Obama administration.  It is not a liberal idea.

Let's take this assertion from TFA (articulated, apparently by  New Republic editor Franklin Foer): "[t]he disastrous of President Barack Obama's signature healthcare plan has damaged the liberal cause and the idea that government can still play a competent and unifying role in solving national problems."

Ignoring for a moment the fact that the claim seems to have accidentally a word, it's nonsensical.  The PPACA is not a law that shows confidence in the ability of government to be competent.  The PPACA is a law that assumes the government is incompetent and must rely on for-profit corporations to be useful.  And, the PPACA was also extraordinarily naive, in that it assumed that Republicans would support their own creation if its success would allow a Democrat a political win.

A) The ACA isn't a liberal plan. But you knew that.
B) Your concern is duly noted, f*ckhead.

Eddie Adams from Torrance: I used to be the libbist lib who ever libbed a lib, but when I heard that it might take weeks to fix the healthcare.gov website, I joined the Tea Party.

I was a liberal until I tried to use the Obamacare website. Now I run a small business that fracks for oil underneath orphanages.

dogdaze:

What's ironic about that picture is that it's posted by folks around here who see the monothilic Conservative behind all of societies ills and blame "the far right" whenever they jump at their own shadow.

Yes. That's why I pointed out the irony of people using that image. I mean, we're all guilty of over generalizing people we don't agree with. It's to what degree we do so that we all should keep in check

Obamacare "has hurt the cause of liberalism"

Only for people under the delusion that Obama is a liberal.

2013-11-26 01:25:43 PM
Considering a huge gash of Obamacare opposition is from liberals who think it didn't go far enough, and who have been opposing reform since Obama took universal HC off the table, it's pretty clear that liberalism was already dead before it got there.

2013-11-26 01:32:12 PM
The concern is very high in that article.

can't argue with that.

If a modern Conservative actually bothered to look up John Locke Liberalism, their heads would assplode.

but we live in the time of name calling, which doesn't necessarily require accurate meanings or usage.
