The only thing they've "influenced" is a bunch of hipster morons to ironically crotchet their likenesses on a scarf for their Etsy store.

Spuds McKenzie, on the other hand, now that's an influential animal...

Little Scotch Terriers named Pat

No list of influential animals is complete with William Lyon MacKenzie King's dogs. These little Scotch Terriers, all named Pat except for one named Bob, advised King on political and personal manners from beyond the grave, along with his deceased Mother, the late FDR, former Canadian PM Sir Wilfred Lauriers, and the long-deceased Leonardo da Vinci.

Now, a lot of bad advice has been given by dogs (see Son of Sam) but King's panel of advisors helped him to govern Canada for 22 years, and some of the most momentous historical decisions may have been decided on their advice.

For example, the Billion Dollar Gift, the conscription crisis, the founding of Air Canada and the CBC, the first old age pensions, and so forth.

King was intensely conservative and religious and his advisor C.D. Howe has given his name to a right wing think tank that is Canada's equivalent of think tanks such as the Cato Institute, but with the help of his late family and friends and mentors, he did a pretty good job.

He was one of Canada's most successful politicans and Prime Ministers and also one of the most powerful. A cartoonist drew a picture of King in Cabinet meeting with Himself in every chair, which represented his tendency to keep his own counsel.

At the end of World War Two, Canada briefly had the fourth largest navy in the world, IIRC. Canada became a modern industrialized nation and a welfare state under King's penny-pinching and conservative guidance. Even though C.D. Howe was a devout conservative, he allowed his bureaucrats to convince him to found the CBC (so the Americans did not control the airwaves entirely) and Air Canada (formerly Canadian Airways, IIRC) because he realized that the air was the future of transportation for passengers in North America.

Don't you wish that George W. Bush had consulted his little Scotch Terrier, Barney, more often and Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld less frequently?

Sure you do.

The dogs that helped govern Canada for 22 years were far more powerful than any of the animals on this list and far wiser, it would seem.

Where the heck is Buddy, the first seeing-eye dog??

http://positivecanineguidance.com/?p=635

Fun fact: her real name was Kiss, but Frank felt Buddy to be a better name. All of Frank's dogs were named Buddy, and no other dog in the program could have that name.
