The AFC South must be horrible if the Jags still have a mathematical shot at making the playoffs.

Every game from here on out is a "must lose"

It's not just the South.  The 5-6 Titans are currently the 6th playoff seed, and there are 5 other 5-6 teams with a bunch more 4-7.

I know there's a way I can take that and say that that proves how good the NFC South is, but that would involve sitting down and thinking it through and I'm not awake enough for that. I'll just sit here and pretend that being in the running for the top pick is a good thing.

While just about impossible, that would be epic.  Denver, congratulations on goingn 13-3!  Here's your first road playoff game in Jacksonville.

Here's the best I got.

AFC
1st - KC (14-2)
2nd - NE (13-3)
3rd - Cin (11-5)
4th - Jax (7-9)
5th - Den (13-3)
6th - Ind (7-9)

NFC
1st - Sea (13-3)
2nd - NO (12-4)
3rd - Dal (11-5)
4th - Min (7-8-1)
5th - NYG (8-8)
6th - TB (8-8)

Though I could probably get a 13-3 or 12-4 Carolina in that 5th WC spot.

Incorrect. With a loss by either of those teams, they fall to 2-10 (best record 6-10) and would be unable to win their division (Indy has 7 wins). They obviously can't catch wild card #1 (Denver or KC at 9+ wins), and if Miami and Pittsburgh both win, each would move to 6 wins with a head-to-head between them yet to come (which either one team wins to get to 7 wins or they tie to both get to 6.5). There may be other scenarios, but this is the first one I see.

Week 13 scenarios as best I can see (this may be improved for the ranking thread):
Denver clinches playoff spot with win AND Baltimore/Pittsburgh tie AND Tennessee loss/tie AND Jets/Miami tie
Jacksonville eliminated with loss AND Miami win AND Pittsburgh win
Houston eliminated with loss AND Miami win AND Pittsburgh win
Seattle clinches playoff spot with win AND Arizona loss
Washington eliminated with (a) loss AND Dallas win AND Philadelphia win; (b) loss AND Arizona win; (c) loss AND San Francisco win
Minnesota eliminated with loss/tie
Tampa Bay eliminated with loss

Ah, thanks for that. I naively did the "3 games back from the 5-6 teams, therefore 3 games from elimination" thing. Which now that I've woken up is incredibly stupid

LOL the Giants at #5, going on the road to play Minnesota in an encore MNF matchup?

I highly doubt that we are getting the #5 seed. However, I suppose 4-1 the final 5 games is doable to finish 8-8, with 2 games against the Redskins and a game against the Chargers. Figure Detroit as a coinflip and a probable loss to Seattle.

Why? The saints barely beat the first team eliminated from the playoffs, doesn't really speak well for their chances once the playoffs start.

And anyone remotely following them knew this was a foregone conclusion once their idiot GM started letting even their half ass linemen go and replaced them with even an even worse line. Add the injuries and any chance at outscoring teams were long gone.

Yeah, I know the focus is on Browner and Thurmond, but Jeremy Lane and Byron Maxwell have a good amount of starting experience and aren't slouches themselves.  Brees had almost all day to throw against Atlanta, and they barely put them away.  Seattle's pass rush is far better than Atlanta's.  Everyone expecting a shootout, though, probably won't get one.  it's going to be all ground game and short passes.  I don't know who will win, but I do expect Wilson to have a good performance, mostly because the Saints themselves are having secondary problems.  They'll focus on Harvin, and Kearse will be open for much of the night.

You heard that they contacted Todd Maclure before the bye week and didn't call him back when he basically told them he'd come out of retirement to help the line out? I have a theory about why the Falcons didn't evenbring him in for a look see: they knew then that the season was farked and secretly decided to tank the season.

Harv72b: Harv72b: grinding_journalist: I'm trying to get both the Jagwaggers and the Browns in. I don't think it can be done after the Browns lost to PIT, since they play each other next week (and I'm going, so excited)

KingKauff: steamingpile: AdamK: if i were a saints fan i'd have a giant shiat-eating grin right now

You heard that they contacted Todd Maclure before the bye week and didn't call him back when he basically told them he'd come out of retirement to help the line out? I have a theory about why the Falcons didn't evenbring him in for a look see: they knew then that the season was farked and secretly decided to tank the season.

I am just hoping that if they do get the top pick they trade it away to get multiple picks because one player will not fix this shiatty line play.

My guess is they won't and draft that slacking clowney then he will wind up being a bust.

I'd prefer the o-lineman whose name is escaping me at the moment. Miller? McKinney? I know it starts with an "M"

We've needed a pass rusher for years.

Hello Clowney!

Hey, why not go after Teddy Bridgewater? It's not like anybody has ever gone on from the University to Louisville to disappoint the Falcons' fans, am I right?

Shh... Let them get Clowney. And he'll hold out. And show up to training camp well overweight when the holdout ends.

Im OK with this. Clowney  has looked mighty blockable this year too.

I love how people are laughing at the huge contract Ryan signed earlier this year. Those laughers have no idea how his signing the contract this year helps the team cap wise beginning next year and then the year after will be even bigger, unlike the contract Flacco signed that basically hamstrung the Ravens for a while. Study it out

Still, have hope Vikings, Browns, and Jaguars fans! You can still HOST playoff games!

Indeed, only Atlanta, Tampa, and Oakland have been eliminated from divisional contention.

They need both.  Their run blocking is atrocius, but that team is 2nd worst in the NFL in pass defense, almost equally bad against all receivers, and have the 29th worst pass rush, and the 23rd worst rush defense.
At least with their pass blocking (giving up only 19 sacks, and 3rd best) they can patch together some offense, getting Jones and White back next year, and maybe a healthy season from Steven Jackson.  Sure, if the 2nd coming of John Hannah is available to them in the draft, they should take him, but Dmitroff should have a major defensive overhaul in the works.

/So obviously they'll be drafting 2 tight ends in the first 3 rounds

Flacco got them a ring and into playoff contention this year.. Matty Ice got eliminated from the playoffs before the Jags. Im not seeing the value comparison here.

Because when they key on jacquizz he gets stopped every time, you have to sneak him into the open field to let him make a difference.

Stephen Jackson aged 15 years in 6 months, but it also proved the line situation is worse than they believed.

And if they draft clowney I will become a jags fan since hes a lost case, watching him at south Carolina this year taking whole series off without doing a damn was amazing. I was actually scared going into this season that he was going to kill everyone since his family took out that insurance policy but hes proven what a slacker he is.

There...I'm fairly certain this is the ultimate troll of the NFL playoff brackets: Home playoff games for Jacksonville, Cleveland, Washington, and Minnesota, and Tampa Bay gets in too for extra credit:

Now if you'll excuse me, I'll be in the corner slowly rocking while I try to get over the potential implications this could have for the space-time continuum.
