Xu Chang'en, associate chief physician of the obstetrics department of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital of Fudan University, said the baby could face health problems in the future.
He said: "Obesity may affect the baby's health in the future. Rates of obesity and diabetes are obviously higher for an adolescent or an adult who was born overweight."

Heh, could you imagine what someone in the US would do if her doctor told the newspapers that her baby was "born overweight" and that maybe she had something to do with it? He'd probably be sued out of business.

The first step should be to stop celebrating this sort of thing. It's not a contest, and even if it were most grotesque and unhealthy shouldn't be the goal. What's next? Who can burn toast the worst?

This just scares me. I'm 7 months pregnant and just barely diagnosed with GD and I am handling it. My baby measures several weeks early though so I am anticipating a big baby, and part of my diet (as recommended by the dietitian) is one slice of toast, two eggs and some yogurt for breakfast. I have to wonder exactly how much fruit and other high sugar items she ate and if she ever was diagnosed with GD.

I can only they inducement before the baby becomes too big.
