At halftime someone remarked to Peyton that this game had a "playoff atmosphere"; it was then that I wrote "GAME OVER" in my notebook.

Julian Edelman out-Welkered prodigal son Wes Welker

Dammit, "prodigal" does not mean "wandering", "absent", or "returning"; it means "wasteful". The Prodigal Son in the Biblical parable was called that because he blew his fortune on coke and whores, not because he came crawling back to Daddy.

The Broncos lost because Cromarte went out at the half and Del Rio thought it would be genius to completely change their defensive scheme from man to zone. Sure, we shut out the Patriots 24-0 using man -- lets completely change it because one guy is hurt and let Brady pick us apart like he's playing a video game.

Peyton couldn't close out a 24-point lead against probably the worst run defense in the NFL in miserable passing/comeback conditions. We should feel bad for him because a fumble toward the end of the game deprived him a chance to fail, just like all but one of his drives after halftime?

Choke artist. This game was a microcosm of just about all but one of his seasons in his career.

I love Tom Brady.

Did you miss Peyton's drive where he had to throw into the wind and tied the game with time dwindling in the 4th? I'd hardly call that choking. He got them down to the Pats 40 in OT when Welker dropped an easy 3rd down pass, forcing a punt. Brady had to end up punting back, and got a lucky break with another Welker error.

Yeah, it was Peyton's fault that Montee Ball fumbled at 24-7 when the Broncos were moving it on the ground easily and were about to cross midfield.

NE is better at playing situational football than Denver with or without mistakes - with or without a worse team... despite the misleading rushing stats for Denver, it brings up the question of whether this Denver team is really better than the one that lost in the playoffs against Baltimore, it brought out all the bad habits that team had even Manning's bad habits

Did you see Tom Brady have a perfect QB rating, throwing for 160+ yards in the 3rd Quarter, all against the wind, down 23.

That one drive by Peyton was dope tho!

Instead of putting it squarely on Manning (although he didn't play well either in the second half), the entire Broncos team outside of Moreno just shat the bed. Period. Even if Manning was more accurate and decisive, it wouldn't have made much of a difference because Aqib Talib was absolutely pwning Demaryius Thomas all over the goddamn field and Decker couldn't get open against guys who were signed off the street. Combine that with Brady enacting God Mode, well...game over.

2013-11-25 01:51:02 PM
I should add that, while I respect Belichick's policy of "if you lose a fumble, I'll cut you and your family" towards his RBs, Ridley's early fumble and subsequent benching also farked over any chance I had to win in fantasy this week.

2013-11-25 01:53:00 PM
Brady will be Brady and it doesn't matter who you are when he turns it on like he did last night. As a long time Patriots fan it is majestic to see him do this, and down right maddening when you can't rely on it every game. Seems the higher the stakes, or brighter the spot light is the more this guy shines. He will have a game like the 2nd half yesterday and then struggle this weekend against the Texans and look "normal".

2013-11-25 02:02:32 PM
30 points is enough to win in this league. Except when your defense decides to not show up for an entire half. Its not a lack of scoring that will kill Denver, its the defenses inability to actually defend against someone.

Just one stop would have helped in the second half.

You know what your first mistake was? Having Ridley. Belichick's policy isn't bad. Ridley, as much as you have to give his footwork credit, is farking terrible at holding onto the ball. He leads the league at fumbles by a non-QB. He should be benched until he figures out how to hold onto a ball when he gets pushed over by the goddamn wind.

irishman4: subby is butthurt

nope. Quite the contrary, I just know what it takes to get a greenlight on Fark sports. By all rights, Peyton should've kicked some serious ass last night. He didn't. His defense botched it after the first half, his offense dropped it in the 3rd. He went into this being the powerhouse, the god amongst men, and he got a taste of humble pie sent to him. Most people have written off the Pats for the AFC Champs this year, and probably rightly so, but you have to wonder if that means the Bronies are any more worthy after last night's showing

Still though, its not as if Peyton put up all those points on the Pats...they got gifted the first 21 essentially.  I think Brady and the gang showed some true grit in manning up and overcoming a shiatty first half and some seriously shiatty weather.

Very true. the D was always questionable. The Indy game exposed it to where it was obvious. This, hopefully, will serve as a wake up call. If not, you are absolutely correct.

news flash, broncos hadn't played anyone really though before this week. afc is weak. really every team. i dont think theres any clear cut favorite. gonna be like recent years, right team has to get hot at right time, hopefully patriots hit their launching point last night, and they have 5 cup cakes now to close out.

denver, i think, is going to end up like 07 pats. out of the gate quick and fast, struggled to win games down the stretch (remember pats barely beating baltimore? but they still won). denver hitting that wall now.

Someone sounds butthurt. bitter, or jealous. Possibly all three.

That someone thinks Manning has this huge ego & thinks himself hot shiat when he routinely makes fun of himself in commercials (let alone plays nice in interviews) is absolutely hilarious.

If we're being fair, at the perfect time, Brady got hot about a noncall (could've been interference, I think it was Jammer on Thompkins), screamed at the ref through most of the next down's playclock, then had to burn a timeout, then he got impatient and threw a go route to a covered Edelman down the sideline that was terribly thrown, eventually forcing the Pats to punt and potentially costing them the game.

I always compare Brady's demeanor in pressure situations to the Joe Montana story about seeing John Candy in the stands.  I wish Brady had a little bit o' Joe in his veins.  And yes, I know, I'm sure there are Bills and Jets fans who have to watch EJ Manuel and Geno Smith who need me to shut up now.

But all Denver needed to do was score more than just 7 points in the second half. Even an additional field goal would have helped them. And I realize the Broncos was gifted 21 points in that first half, I'm just amazed how cold the offense was from in the second half. Not that I'm complaining about the Pats winning. one thing i noticed at the game (and im sure it was talked about on tv), manning never came out of shotgun. not once. I think he's more injured than they are leading on. his ankle is in bad shape. had the patriots not fumbled, that game might have been out of hand the other way. denver had an amazing run game last night, but patriots were stellar in their bend but dont break defense.

On a somewhat related tangent (since he did play for NE once)...

Did anyone else notice Randy Moss subbing for Howie in the Fox studio show?  Who at Fox actually thought this guy was ready for the big time on TV?

The guy was so stiff and wooden he made Belichick at a press conference look like Robin Williams at The Improv.

That's just the Michael Strahan affect. It's similar to the Shannon Sharpe affect, but more rage inducing.
