buzzcut73: AugieDoggyDaddy: I've read the article three times and still can't find any mention of a gale, ot that the teens were doing anything particuarly stooopid. Did subby just make that up?Taking a 16' jon boat out to sea doesn't seem particularly stupid to you? I've done it exactly once (with 25 HP outboard motor) in 6-7 foot seas and it was scary as hell. Only reason the other guy and I did it was to get another boat that had busted a fuel line a ways off shore and were drifting away from the island with 4 people on board and with nothing but open ocean for 1500 miles in the direction they were headed. That was in 80 degree water though, not off the shore of Virginia in November.
Mambo Bananapatch: First class journalism, folks. Almost no useful details in the story at all, unless I'm missing something. Certainly no discussion of a gale -- just a mention that the teens "abandoned" the boat.
Inflatable Rhetoric: Why does the CG always put people in the water. Why didn't just hoist the guys off the platform they were on?I've picked up a lot of people from a helicopter, on dirt and in the water, and never had a crew member jump in.
