in all seriousness, whenever i have people over for dinner, i try to have one bottle for each person invited.  I have run out of wine with this method, but it appears to be the closest to accurate.

/ lately, i mitigate the wine costs by encouraging people to have a real drink or beer.  so, I've lowered my one bottle per person ratio if i have some drinkable booze

My criteria:

1. Does the wine contain alcohol (farking imposters at the holidays in the aisles of Walmart, dammit!)?
2. Is it is affordable. I mean, not Mad Dog 20/20 cheap but cardbordeaux cheap?

Then yes, serve! And if the guests aren't interested, more wine for the host! (me)

SecretAgentWoman: but cardbordeaux cheap?

Only if you plan on washing your dog.  Life is too short to drink cheap wine.  I'll take a real Bordeaux, please.  In fact, I plan on picking up a very good bottle this evening on my way home from work.
