Wow. A real-life Unknown Armies character.

140000 tapes would give a great workout to one of these

The commercials alone would be a blast to view.

Good for her.

Because of tape wiping, pretty much all live news coverage from the beginning until the 80s was lost. This woman may have some of the only copies of live coverage of major stories.

This is seriously cool, though. Here's to you, taping lady

That is seriously awesome. The sheer scale of it is incredible

On an individual level, it obviously took over her life, but to her it gave her a purpose, so who are we to criticize (cue spidermanjustmasturbating.jpg)

But the unintended consequences will be the interesting bit - as the Vanderbilt archivist said, wide range of groups that will find useful info.

Someone will have a career just organizing the indexing of all of them

This. Most air-checks were kept for a week, a month or so at most if something really farked up happened on the broadcast. But typically after the ap or whomever looked at them once or twice, they were recycled and that broadcast was history.

I've got a couple random broadcasts recorded just for the hell of it when I was working on shows and even if there wasn't any real news on, it's still kinda interesting to go back and watch them. Sadly though I didn't record the "Boom goes the dynamite" broadcast.

So, when does the MPAA & RIAA send in SWAT teams to put a bullet in her head?

TV's Vinnie: So, when does the MPAA & RIAA send in SWAT teams to put a bullet in her head?

Since she's dead, they'll look awfuly foolish. Well, more so than usual that is.

As if that ever stopped them. They'll just hire a backhoe.

Well, they'd have to dig her up first, and that sounds like a lot of work.

Great! Now all we have to do is find a gizmo thinga-ma-bob that can play these "VHS" tapes.

Wow. That sound you heard was archivists all across the country suddenly reaching orgasm simultaneously.

As copyright infringement rates somewhere around genocide-level in their eyes, I have a feeling they'll exhume and posthumously try her.

My roomie goes to thrift shops, garage sales, and trolls CL for shiat like this. It's insane what he puts on YouTube. Old commercials, old news broadcasts. You name it.

I wonder if she's met Marko Vanhanen. If you are not familiar with him, or just need a laugh check youtube.

Uh, that would be never since it's legal to record things on a videocassette recorder. Not sure what you were going for, but thanks for attempting to troll anyway.
