I call BS!

I have been assured that the only possible outcome of private gun ownership is killing your family and/or suicide.

Store owner was stupid and lucky he did not get shot.
Robber has gun pointed at you. Don't tell him your intentions of getting your own gun.

Goofus brings an Airsoft to an armed robbery.

Regardless, the clerk is clearly a "pussy" for carrying a firearm in public.

Almost an open invitation for some punk to come along in a few weeks and prove just who has the biggest gun.  By all means do what you did to prevent the robbery, but don't whore it up in the local media then by surprised when someone calls you out on it.

Good point. If there is one thing that attracts criminals to your business it's the knowledge that the store owner is armed.

The robbers gun was obviously fake. He could have slugged them with a baseball bat and had the upper hand in terms of armament.

If you're the kind of person who doesn't feel safe unless you're carrying, you're a pussy.

Looks to me like an old Dan Wesson, they had the forward cylinder lock like that.

Yup, As far as I know only Colt and DW used the cylinder lock in front like that in DA/SA revolvers.  Grip looks an awful lot like a DW as well and it appears that the barrel shroud is removable from the frame, also a DW trait.  I'd say a DW .357 for sure.

The old Monson, MA guns are amazing and very underrated.

see everyone in a couple of days for the "heroic store clerk fired" thread!

It's definitely a 4" Dan Wesson .357. The revolver has the signature cylinder release in front of the cylinder and the squared-off area under the muzzle, but the rest of the lines share the family lineage of the classic Smith and Wessons. Nice heater.

FTA: robbers in West Seattle found themselves quickly over matched Saturday night.

WTH? This whole premise is stupid. Big or small, a gun will propel a piece of metal fast enough to shred through one's flesh, organs, and bones. If anything, the size of the piece of metal and the propellant would make the difference... and that's generally invariant with respect to the size of the firearm itself. Having a larger pistol doesn't make the other one inert.

Clearly this article is not literal, but some sort of Freudian metaphor.

Oh, and as long as I'm ranting, I've never understood the semantics of the term "overmatched". "Matched" implies even, symmetric. Anything else is "unmatched". What the hell is "overmatched"? Excessively symmetric?

It seems as though it was obvious to the clerk that the robber's gun was fake.

Everybody knows that criminals like a bit of a challenge. That is why you read about cops getting mugged as they walk down the street like every day.

There is a well known study done after WWII estimated that even in heavy firefights, only 15-25% of the men in the unit actually pulled their triggers. The cause was not fear, but a general reluctance to kill.

The military and law enforcement are constantly training their members to overcome this reluctance.

Even if the clown attempting to rob the store had a "real" gun, even though he had the jump on the clerk, when presented with someone who also had a real gun he may simply have fled because he wasn't conditioned to overcome the reluctance to shot. The clerk got lucky.

This why we should all cower in fear and give bullies and robbers whatever they want.
If you work at a mini mart in White Center you should be armed. Just sayin'.
