I've heard a few tracks.

I wasn't supposed to say anything, but it's more of a raggaeton-meets-Gregorian chant kind of deal, with a bit of Norwegian metal and Zappa-esque jazz thrown in.

The first track is 17 minutes long. It starts with backwards latin (tres blasphemous), then the steel drums kick in... in 13/16 timing. The guitar is going pure upstroke on the downbeats, and Dave's vocals have been turned into a pitch-shifted growl.

Right as the song enters a 45-second fadeout, you hear a mouth harp and cowboy yodeling.

The next track is only 15 seconds, in the style of a certain band whose initials are A.C.

It works. I can't explain how, but it works. I love it, and I'm excited to hear the rest of it.

The second track is "Big Me."  It starts with about two sentences worth of lyrics that repeat over and over until the end of the  song.  Then the three whole chords kick in...to back up the 2, maybe 3 measures worth of notes composed in the "scrawled on a napkin at Denny's" genre.  Eventually it non-climaxes in a bunch of strummy blah with all the energy of a 40-year-old who lives with his mom dying of ennui while waiting in line at the DMV.

Really, it's a love song for the ages, and will inspire anyone who ever had trouble finding the words to say, "meh, I guess we started dating."

Unconventional... I'm guessing all live, no overdubs or track stacking?   He's done the whole *cough* garage thing, so this is probably the next experiment.

Because it was the best comparatively to the Star Wars Franchise?

This article is from March, I love really old not-news.What's next, a green light detailing their new album, "Wasting Light?"

Does this mean they finally made an album that was interesting?

"Foo Fighters" are like the definition of the "Yeah, I guess they're okay"-type band. I've never gotten excited about anything they've done, but it makes for decent background music.

Do they still believe unconventional theories like AIDS not being a real thing?

2013-11-24 10:36:54 PM
Or unconventional as in "sounds like all their other records, but played with hollow body guitars"?

No, that's been beaten like a dead horse around here...

I've often wondered how the Foo Fighters might interpret Tales from Topographic Oceans.

Actually, now that I think about it, I've never wondered that.

I don't always listen to "unconventional",
but when I do, I listen to The Sensational Alex Harvey Band.

Eh, fark Foo Fighters, I want another Probot CD!

There will a double bass and no drummer, or something equally conventional.

I don't think Dave has a truly unconventional bone in his body.

Whatever it is I just hope they get back to post-grunge modern rock and away from 70's nostalgia.

Either that or something horribly incomprehensible that will market to these assholes.

Oh My farking GOD DAVE GROHL.  We see you.  Ok?  Yes, you're ubiquitous.  Kee-rist.  We all see Dave Grohl being seen wanting to be seen, FFS.  What will your album be called, 'Lookit Me!!!!'?

2013-11-25 02:55:20 AM
Does that mean that Dave won't be screaming the choruses at the top of his lungs?

2013-11-25 04:05:03 AM
All the voices in my head like Grohls work with tenacious d, everything else can just f-f-f fade away.

2013-11-25 05:03:45 AM
Well, that will be a step up, hopefully, as they're about the most conventional rock band in existence. Honestly, I don't hate them, but only because they're too boring to dislike. You can do a lot worse, but you can also do a lot better.

2013-11-25 06:09:51 AM
I'm predicting a jazz fusion album.

Or just more boring alt-rock. One of the two.

Yo, I hated Foo Fighters before it was cool.

Exactly.

Now this, on the other hand, is brilliant.

I saw them in August, on the north field of Grant Park.

Sort of liked Nirvana.  Love FF.  Really tried but can't stand QOTSA.  There are maybe four FF songs I skip in their total catalog.  Fark 'Learn to Fly'.  Good song, but wore out its welcome ages ago.

I WILL see them next time they tour.

ummm
i like the foo too BUT SERIOUSLY, QOTSA is a worthy band, here's 2 reasons why (try them, you'll like them):

No One Knows - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s88r_q7oufE
Little Sister - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hGRqnNEOpe0

not their best, but certainly their most approachable for the uninitiated.

and for a bonus bit of QOTSA history:
Kyuss - Demon Cleaner - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZaeUak_35VU

hope this helps.
