Bad rain just off the course

King Something: WhyteRaven74: So Red Bull completely screws up Vettel's pit stop...he still comes back out in the lead...it's that kind of year for Red Bull.

They weren't expecting Seb to go in; they had Mark's tyres out. SKY's saying Red Bull may have been expecting a safety car for the HAM/BOT collision

/Lewis gets a drive-thru for that

They had three of four tires out for WEB and all of Vettel's tires set out.  They just screwed up.

if Alonso's car breaks or he ends up off track, people are going to start thinking Red Bull has destruct buttons hidden in their garage.

The race is 75% complete, and is thus worth full points. Mercedes and Ferrari fighting for 2nd in the Constructors' Championship while Mark battles Lewis for third in the Drivers'.

/Seb, by himself, would win the Constructors' Championship

Anyone else thinking the offseaon could end up being lulztastic when testing rolls around in a couple months?

I'd love to know why Caterham decided to let Matchett have access to their cars that no other team gives to anyone.

They need all the exposure they can get?

How much can you really learn from looking at an engine block?

Pic is out (suspension?)

You were a bit early. NOW there's just 10 laps to go (at the start of lap 62 of 71)

Matchett has done other segments, including one where he's showing Caterham's front wing from an angle and proximity F1 teams normally don't allow.

No more V8's and 3K less RPM next year? Why?

turbo-charged V6's, with larger KERS systems and other goodies.

Caterham watches Adrian Newey while Newey's watches those segments - if Adrian doesn't bust out laughing, they know they're on the right track

I wonder if NBC is paying for access?  Or Caterham just wants the extra screen time and figures it isn't giving anything away that their competitors don't already know.

Disaster (nearly) strikes

2013-11-24 12:30:00 PM
So finishing dead last among the constructors is going to cost Caterham $40 million in lost revenues. Or roughly Marussia's entire budget and a few million in change.

5 laps to go

To be enviromentaly friendly. The new drivetrain will get over 10mpg while racing.

A what if here. With the Red Bull pit stop cock up what would happen if Seb was given tyres that Webber had already used yesterday?

It's likely about exposure and the fact they're a backmarker team, so it's not like Red Bull or Mercedes car what they're doing.

GRCooper: Caterham watches Adrian Newey while Newey's watches those segments - if Adrian doesn't bust out laughing, they know they're on the right track

that could actually work

Speaking of Newey - is he the highest paid person in F1? If a Schumacher was worth $50 million 10 years ago, is Newey worth $75 million?

Webber takes his helmet off

2013-11-24 12:39:41 PM
So will the stewards have the balls to punish Webber for taking off his helmet?

Also i wonder what Seb's face will be like when Webber gets a much bigger cheer than he does?

GRCooper: Speaking of Newey - is he the highest paid person in F1? If a Schumacher was worth $50 million 10 years ago, is Newey worth $75 million?

He's definitely the highest paid designer, though I suspect Vettel or Alonso are the highest paid drivers.

damn. At least the replay is on later

So Vettel now has 39 career wins, two behind Senna's career total.

They should give Webber credit for half of one of them

I suspect it's gonna get real dusty next year, how soon into the year depends a bit on how good everyone's cars are. But it'll happen at some point

2013-11-24 04:06:29 PM
That race was just a 90+ minute cocktease, we kept hoping everyone would end up all wet, but it never came...

I can only hope next season is more exciting, I mean all the history of Vettel destroying records is nice and all, but when the race is over by lap 4, it's getting hard to watch.  Please let all the teams struggle with next season's tires, and please let them have reliability issues again.  The cars have been pretty much bulletproof the last few years, they even can ram into each other and half the time neither car has to retire.

I want to see a race where the outcome is in doubt until the checkered flag is in the air.

2013-11-24 04:43:50 PM
Just finished watching the replay, interesting race, if not particularly exiting. Looking forward to the teams starting fresh with the smaller engines next year. Are there any other changes to the car, like aero? New tires from Pirelli?

8-speed transmissions, for one. Other details can be found on this 87-page PDF, if one could be arsed to read through the whole thing

Or here's the cliff's notes version: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014_Formula_One_season#Rule_changes

V6-Turbos, 15k RPM limits, fuel flow limits, a much more powerful KERS (161 bhp x 33sec/lap), lower noses, more exhaust restrictions to try to prevent the blown diffusers.

I want next season to be similar to 2009 - a couple of teams will figure out a loophole and get out to a good lead in the championship, then by the end of the season everyone will have that on their cars.

I expect Newey and Red Bull will be fastest from the start and Vettel will win pretty much any race he finishes.

I suspect that Newey will have perfected his blue shell technology for next season.
