They were probably hitting trees, so it's no surprise they hit bridges too.

At least they're down in Texas, where Bob Wills is still the king.

Just read an update. Apparently, the injuries aren't as serious as this article. One band member has a broken ankle, one has a couple of cracked ribs, and one has a pretty badly bruised hip.

Not a fun time, by any means, but at least we're not talking Cliff Burton territory.

Win.

I saw them for the first time last summer at Outside Lands SF and was really impressed by how entertaining WN is. Between he and Sir Paul McCartney they have 150+ years on this planet and still manage to put on great shows.

I agree... Glad to see that someone acknowledged subby's work here, might be too obscure for some though...

Willie Nelson is one of those people I don't listen to very often, but then I do throw it on and I always say something like: "Willie Nelson is really farking good. Why don't I own more albums?"

I picked up some Willie Nelson music that is really old, like from the 60's. I didn't even know that he sang some of those classics He's been around for a long time. And always good, no matter what he's doing.

So here's what Willie used to look like:

Paul English, Willie's drummer, is the band member that suffered a broken hip. Before you assume the injuries aren't serious, keep in mind that Paul is 81 years old.

He first played with Willie in 1955 or so.

If anyone is interested in a long but fascinating read about 1970s country music, including Willie Nelson among others, read here.

Ironically, the bus that crashed was the non-smoking bus.

Also, shame on TFA for misspelling Bee Spears' name. He was a great guy and will be missed.

/Goddammit, now I'm just thinking of him as a pot-addled Barliman Butterbur

This is one of my new favorite quotes, and I will endeavor to use it whenever appropriate:

TOM T. HALLhad his first top ten country hit with "Ballad of Forty Dollars" in 1968. Kris came to town and created an illusion of literacy. Somebody said once that he and I were the only guys in Nashville who could describe Dolly Parton without using our hands.

Now that right there is one helluva quote.

Read that a few months back. Great piece with a lot of hysterically funny stories as I recall.

Okay, sang AND wrote.

I am shocked that someone could age so much in just 40 or 50 years! Reefer madness, indeed.

I'm going to guess that the driver is pretty much fired on the spot if he engages in that kind of behavior while on duty. Willie is a pro.

Drugs may not have been involved. Article, or some other one I saw, said that it was a dark and stormy night.

And Willie and company got busted a few years ago with bags of weed and a bunch of mushrooms on the tour bus, that's how much of a pro he is. And that's far from the first time that he's been busted for weed.

My best friend's husband is the bass player in the band and was on the bus. He was not one of the injured, thank goodness. We don't know how to drive in icy road conditions any more than we know how to choose governors.

Which is why he doesn't drive the bus. Either of the buses. Not his, not the one that crashed. But don't let that spoil anyone's fun.

Enjoy him now, but you guys should have seen his shows back in the 70's, when he really got popular. Some of the longest and best concerts I've ever seen.

Except for Ann Richards and Rick Perry we do pretty well.

I hope Paul recovers soon . Despite his hoodlummy, pimping past, he seems like a nice guy.
