I think the only thing more pathetic than skipping out on a family Thanksgiving dinner to go shopping is realizing that you're hungry while shopping and eating at a mall food store.  Enjoy your $9.99 crockpot, loser.

Smeggy Smurf: sendtodave: Makes sense. You can't go to a restaurant on Amazon.

Why is Black Friday still a thing?

Heck, why are brick and mortar stores still a thing?

For the excellent, personal service you get at Walmart, Best Buy, et al?

Because people and businesses need shiat right now, not next week. It's a work thing, not many on Fark would understand that. stupid people can't plan ahead

brigid_fitch: For the past several years, I have gone to my local mall, ordered a chai at Starbucks, and sat in the concourse to watch the insanity.  So, yeah--I can totally agree.  On Black Friday, only Starbucks & restaurants get my money because I've already ordered everything I want/need online.

Get there super early and get a really good parking spot next to an intersection and occasionally walk out to the car, open the door get in, and then act like you just forgot something and head back into the mall. Remember to smile and wave with an "I'm sorry" look the the people caught in the traffic jam you just created.

Having had to work during black friday several times at a retail store, black friday is one of the most STUPIDIST things ever.

All the work and prep, and panicking by managers, getting to work at OH MY GOD in the morning, then a mere 4 hours later the store is DEAD and wiped out of all the "Deals"
for what?
most of the time the stores are happy to break even during the time.

Hubie is pretty much planning for Black Friday to be slammed, thanks to Yankee Candle being just down the road. Their in store restaurant is far too expensive for a fair chunk of the folks shopping there, and we will be filled with bargain hunters, licking their wounds and counting their spoils. And the weeks following are going to be crazed almost as badly. It goin' be a bumpy ride...

Well, maybe you need to restock the toilet paper in a hurry, or your mop broke or something, I dunno.

But where I'm from, you don't just run out and party with the company card. You go through approvals, showing what you are going to buy, and what it costs.

Which makes online ordering even better.

I've had computers crap out in the middle of a project.  The deadlines didn't allow for waiting even 8 hours for a new computer.  It happens.  That's why brick and mortar stores will never go away.  They're going to evolve into what will amount to showrooms for online purchases but there will always be a need to service the Right Now customer.
