I love that. Since it's Australia, someone should PhotoShop in some Vegemite.

That's animal # 1657124145 that's deadly in Australia.

Wait, so... They found this extremely rare jellyfish, but they don't know how to take care of it, so... they're sending it to a museum to presumably preserve in a jar?

I assume there are more out there, but it's still hard to fathom...

I'm so split on this myself. If it is super-rare, they should have left it in the wild, perhaps gently attempted a DNA sample? But they caught it instead, which means that they should give an honest effort to keeping it alive, not resigning themselves to the idea that it's going to die. Everything dies, no point in rushing even a jellyfish out that door.

Do dried stinging jellyfish have the same potency as the live stuff?

Do you really need to follow "Australia" with "deadly new animal discovered" in a headline?
Seems like a lot of unnecessary words.

Doesn't Cookie say something more like "AH RUM CHUM CHUM CHUM CHUM"?

/seriously, you better hope one of those never stings you on your img.photobucket.com

The standard way to reliably determine that a species is extant is to take a sample and put it in a museum. Repeat until you can't find any more. Then declare the animal extinct. The last confirmed sighting of a wild passenger pigeon is the day a boy in Ohio shot one.

It'd be much better to only announce when they appear to be completely benign.

'New species of mouse found in Australia.  Appears to be devoid of venom sacs!'

Dammit, and they were so close to having something besides koalas on their tourism brochures.

"We found a mouse that didn't have deadly venum sacs. Now we know why it is extinct"

An Australian friend of mine laughs at the idea of a koala being a cuddly symbol of Australia. They are drunk most of the time and have syphillis.

/ insert a joke about that being a true symbol of .au

It's interesting that the just says it's deadly, but doesn't specify how it kills.

Because I doubt most readers would know that it uses an axe.

That's true, but the koalas aren't much better.

Cookii reminds me of the scene I laughed hardest at in The Wire, Bunk while drunk telling about the plural of pussy.

I'm not 100% sure about the onomatopoeia, but it seems to me that the "OM NOM NOM" meme probably owes a lot to Cookie's eating noises.

"AH RUM CHUM CHUM CHUM CHUM" reminds me of taking a foreign language and learning the French or Spanish sounds for farm animals:

"The rooster goes, "COO-LA-ROO-LA-DOO!" or something.
