(Huffington Post)   Is it any surprise that the trailer for Lars Von Trier's new film "Nymphomaniac" is not safe for work?   (huffingtonpost.com) divider line 69

I did not expect to see the uncensored, explicit fellatio in a You Tube video.

HotWingAgenda: Dwight_Yeast: Apparently a lot of stand-ins and digital manipulation; the actual actors and actresses apparently didn't get naked for the film.

That's incredibly depressing somehow. They're getting paid millions of dollars, have no problem with the world at large seeing a realistic movie of them naked and bonking . . so long as it's really CGI overlay on a flesh-colored leotard. Bah.

This is a four hour foreign indie film that will at best play in 10 theaters in the U.S. I seriously doubt anyone is getting millions for this.

"Lars Von Trier released a graphic full-length teaser for "Nymphomanic" on Friday (parts are straight-up pornography). "

No idea yet as I haven't seen the whole film, but from the trailer, that seems to be a stretch. Nudity, sex =/= porn.

ChubbyTiger: That may be the most depressing display of porn I've ever seen.

Porn is designed to titillate. This doesn't seem to have that kind of vibe. Sure, the sex is explicit and unsimulated (though using body doubles presumably), but judging from the trailer, this will be a bleak, cold depressing movie about miserable people driven to unhealthy compulsions. In other words, par for the course for Von Trier.

Can't wait to see it.

I loved Dogville, Antichrist and Melancholia and I can't wait to see this one.

legion_of_doo: I don't recall seeing a vulva

Right at the beginning,

Sgt Otter: I saw it earlier.  There was a full shot of a vulva, some chicks completely naked, and one woman giving a blowjob where you actually saw a cock in her mouth.

oh it's still there, vulva, cock 'n' all.

If this is like his other films, it will be unpleasant, but very memorable. Don't expect to get turned on by anything that happens in the film.

AeAe: roflmaonow: Does Lars Von trier use the same actors usually? That same chick from antichrist along with Defoe seems to be there

/bloody ejaculation
/// shudders!

Charlotte Gainsbourg.  She was also in Melancholia

She appears to be the one actress von Trier hasn't driven off.

Don't expect most Americans to know the difference.

von Trier's been made it clear since before he started shooting that the film would contain explicit sex, not just nudity. But like I said, the actual sex acts are being done by body doubles, not by the actual actors.

And just because a well-known director has shot a film containing a bunch of A-list Hollywood actors doesn't mean that it will see theatrical release here in the States.  It's a four- or five-hour film with explicit sex scenes.  That's going to be too much for most distributors to accept.

Even in Europe, von Trier is turning the film over to another director to produce two two-hour films out of his director's cut for commercial release, as even theaters over there need to run films many times a day, which precludes anything much over two hours long.

I like Von Trier.  He makes these non-Hollywood movies that I think we need to encourage.

I enjoyed Breaking the Waves - that was a tough movie to watch.  I couldn't sit thru Antichrist, but I really liked Melancholia.

This one looks like another rough movie, but I get a really visceral reaction from his movies.  Makes you feel alive.  Like when I smoke meth.

I like dark movies- but Von Trier's stuff is just depressing and misogynistic. Fark that guy.

Didn't he shoot doing something to DeFoe's balls or dick in Antichrist?  I would say he's an equal opportunity misanthrope.  Also I understand he's clinically depressed and he's trying to work his shiat out in his movies ..

The trailer makes sex look boring.  As much as I like nudity, I can't come up with a good reason to see this movie.

So I watched Antichrist, based on this very thread.

Quite a powerful movie, better than Melancholia (which I also enjoyed), but certainly not suitable for the squeamish.

Charlotte Gainsbourg is easily one of the most underrated actresses going.

Well...I'm gonna shoot a wild guess and say that parts of this, viewed out-of-context, will be good for a few boners.

In-context, it'll be an exercise in endurance that I probably won't pass. Like his other movies.
