FTA "Moore said that he became caught up in his desire to vindicate himself and be seen as correct, and he succumbed to the temptation to "fight Satan with Satan."
"When we see Satan taking the law of God, accurately diagnosing what it means and accusing with it, he is coming to kill and destroy. What was happening to me was I wanted to win," Moore said."

Headline is misleading as this is an article about falling into the trap of self-righteosness and the destruction that results under the guise of retaining what's right and moral. i.e. Love had left the building.

Jesus, I actually have experience with Dom/Sub relationships and it'd drive me insane to be with someone who is perpetually subservient on all matters. If I'm with someone it's partially because I trust them and their judgement and I want to hear when I have something wrong.

2013-11-22 06:17:44 PM
Christ said nothing about women being subservient to men.  As is typical of many "Christians", he can't tell where an ancient Jewish text ends and the New Testament - HIS self-professed gospel - begins.

So sad.

FTA: He said the Bible instructed Christian women to be subservient to their husbands, who in turn are commanded to be faithful to their wives.

"Sometimes you have people who are preaching a false gospel to themselves in their homes by men who aren't loving their wives as themselves and wives who aren't submitting to their husbands," Moore said. "That then plays itself out in other ways later on in that person's walk with Christ."

Yup. Nothing about women having to be subservient to their husbands in that article.

Though the going to hell bit is a bit overblown.

Marcus Aurelius: Christ said nothing about women being subservient to men.  As is typical of many "Christians", he can't tell where an ancient Jewish text ends and the New Testament - HIS self-professed gospel - begins.

Well... Paul didn't help with his Ephesians piece: 'Wives, submit to your husbands...' But that's mostly because people just read the first few verses and ignore the rest about how husbands are to supposed to die for their wives as Christ died for the church.

Anyway, as a Methodist, I'm not a huge fan of the Southern Baptist theology and would much rather have a strong woman than a subservient one. As it is, my wife is on her way to becoming a pastor, and I think it's awesome that in the Methodist tradition it's fully accepted, though I know she is going to run into people who don't agree.

2013-11-22 06:27:28 PM
It was good enough for sheep-shagging Middle Eastern pastoralists and camel raiders.

But God Himself didn't have to live like that.

Neither do any of the mean selfish little men who keep these obsolete goat-sticking values alive.

But I can tell you that if God still wants women and children to live like that two thousand years after being crucified as a human sacrifice, then I am glad they crucified Him and hope they get a chance to do it again real soon. Just to refresh his memory of what suffering is like for the sufferer, not the torturer.

Some Gods never learn. Their worshippers are even worse. They throw away the lessons learned and embrace the darkness calling it light. Do it again until the self-righteous get the point.

These are "Christians" (and others) who model themselves not on Job, but on his Comforters. They miss the point that these three men are not the heroes of the story. They are not helping at all.

Heh. I just watched that episode the other day. I agree with Abby: 'Yes,  I skipped over that part, because it's STUPID'.

I'm eternally grateful for my family for choosing a church that was American Baptist, NOT the BS that is the Southern Baptist church.
