That one's fake but as they mention this one's real:

There was a story that came out today about a teen who tried to knockout a man in Lansing, Michigan as part of the knockout game. But he failed, and the man shot the teen twice, then the man was thrown into jail.

Michigan justice. Punish the victim. Lovely.

Fake article is fake.  However, she'd likely have a valid claim for self defense given that she was outnumbered, elderly, unable to escape, and attacked first by people reasonably capable (because of their youth and numbers) of inflicting serious bodily injury or death.  If she existed, I mean.

That's if the imaginary prosecutors even charged the imaginary woman to begin with, however.

chasing it down, so far I think this is fake.
I wish it was real, however.
Now all the law enforcement agencies are investigating run-of-the-mill assaults to see if they are part of this game

This is why we have Stand Your Ground laws. Somebody attacks you, you shouldn't have to make the case for self defense.

Yeah, except you're wrong about the circumstances. The teen got shot AND the teen got a year in jail. And I submitted that story with a better headline than this shiatty one.

is this "knockout 'game'" really a thing? seriously? yes i know the story of the 60 y.o. woman is fake, but are there really people joining in on this trend of punching random people? i foresee many dead folks...assailants and victims...if so.

seriously?

what a stupid activity. bored? get a hobby that doesn't involve hurting people for no reason. want to hurt people? go to a gym and get trained in boxing/mma/martial arts. it's legal, regulated, and you at least wear protective equipment to help keep the injuries at a minimum. and you get back what you dish out.

After clicking the link I see that, but the way it was written in the article implies the man went to jail...because ya know, they said the MAN went to jail.

No, just a poorly worded sentence. From wiki and other news sources:
(2013) Lansing, Michigan: 17-year-old Marvell Weaver is shot twice in the buttocks after he punches a man who is armed with a .40 caliber pistol. Weaver, who was not seriously injured, was sentenced to one year in jail.

TBH, even if it was a healthy adult, if they were outnumbered or outsized, I'd still give em the benefit of the doubt with a self defense claim for shooting an unarmed attacker. Given what we know about concussions, CTE, and TBIs, and given that people die every month from unarmed contact, either resultant of the initial hit or from subsequent ground contact, it is not unreasonable to think an unarmed attacker could do damage as severe as someone with a knife or gun. That said, around here, you're much more likely to get killed by a moose than a teenager.

That would be my first instinct if I were attacked and weren't ko'd. That is a legitimate reason in my opinion. That is pure self defense.

Actually, Michigan Justice got it right.  But whoever wrote the sentence with two "the man" references in it without distinguishing the perp and the victim surely did not get it right...

actually the light gun doesn't work that way.  it doesn't interact at all with the TV, it's the other way around.

When you play duck hunt watch the screen. It goes black with a small white patch briefly as you pull the trigger.  The white patch is the duck.
an easy way to cheat was to shoot at a light bulb or diffused light source.  the gun looks for that and does not use infrared.

it may be true that in some states the victim who shoots in defense would be charged with lethal force...i would hope a good lawyer could get that part dismissed by arguing a punch can indeed be lethal, therefore lethal force as a defense is not excessive.

I wish the story was true and a couple of assholes bit the dust. This is a brutal game played by thugs that doesn't deserve to breathe the same air we do. Last night on TV they were showing the knockout game and it is sickening, punks punching out an old guy, and all the punks laughing and joking about it. Seemed like every video only contained a certain ethnic group, I could be wrong.
Feeling sad for America.

This is what I don't get. These youts are trying to demonstrate how tough they are by hitting (mostly) defenseless elderly people? WTF? That doesn't make them tough. Go play knockout with a Marine, or an MMA fighter if you want to show how tough you are.

Then post video of the reaction. Because THAT would worth watching.
