beyond Obamacare=BAD! I just don't see what the plan here could be.

Does the GOP hope to repeal it entirely?
Wont that instantly cause people with preexisting conditions, kids in their mid 20s, people who qualified for expanded medicaid, and people who can only now afford insurance thanks to subsidies to lose their insurance?

Or do they intend to attempt to keep the more popular parts of Obamacare like the new preexisting condition rule and the rule allowing kids to stay on their parents policies longer while dropping the mandate?
Wont that cause the insurance companies to go bankrupt?

seriously, what's the plan?
I get the feeling they're just hoping to use this to gain more power and if they get it they'll just continue to complain without even attempting to fix this.

Ted Cruz pegging that made me chuckle a little.

"I think there will be plenty of time to worry about the specific text. What I think is critical is that we keep focus on Obamacare and on fixing things," said Cruz, a possible presidential contender in 2016. "I think what we need to do is repeal in its entirety. I don't know [if I can do that in January]. I hope so."

Ted Cruz wants your mother who survived breast cancer to be kicked off her insurance.

Ted Cruz 2016.

Let's make predictions on how long the next government shutdown will last.  I'm thinking 11 days before Republicans cave, once again.  Most of them still don't think they did anything wrong and it didn't hurt their brand, and now they probably think they've got the Democrats on the ropes because of the failed ACA rollout.  They'll be ballsy enough to try it again.

I think, scarily enough, that they have a stronger hand now.  Last time a few Senate defectors put the house on the ropes by passing a resolution.  After the Dems nerfed filibuster for appointees I can see that making the few sane defectors butthurt enough to not cooperate on a resolution.  Basically putting in in the house's hands.

They will also do another patch fix so they can do this again right before the elections. That way their failure can be fresh in the minds of their constituents.

Do you have an alternative plan for covering those individuals?" Stupid media.

yeah, I guess I do.

Does their base understand this? maybe that's the question I should be asking.

what does their base think the GOP is going to do about Obamacare?

....wait I think I might know this one too...They don't care they simply have an ingrained negative reaction to anything Obama and want it all torn down regardless of consequences.

Ok forget the base, do the voters they're swaying think the GOP has any interest in fixing this?

...dammit, the answer is: they don't have a clue...isn't it?

/could politics in this country possibly get any more frustrating?

Please GOP don't do it!

You know, when Grampa keeps whipping out his wang in public and starts fapping it right then and there ten times a day, you have to just accept the fact that he's finally gone in the head and start to keep him away from the dangerous things like the power tools and flammables. Most likely have him sent off to a home where he can no longer hurt himself or anyone.

Same thing with Cruz (and the GOP in general). It really is time to separate these nutbags from the power to do harm.

Idunno. Which was the one that threw a temper tantrum and yelled threats of revenge when their filibuster toy was taken away?

I don't know what it is that sets off my Oogie-dar about this guy. The hairstyle that hasn't been seen since the days of the Korean war, the eyes that seem too far apart, the ears, and that oh-my-god-do-I-ever-so-much-to-want-to-punch-it mouth.

I think someone once said that Ted Cruz looks like someone in a badly-made Ted Cruz mask.

I am pretty sure I thought the US political system had reached peak derp by around 2004 (Florida election issues, Bush, the war of bullshiat, etc.). That it is still rising now makes me presume there is no such thing as peak derp, and that there is actually an infinite supply still to be tapped.

Right...they go on TV and pretend that they are super concerned with 3 to 5 million losing their shiatty insurance, but have no problem with tens of millions going completely uninsured.

F*cking assholes.

I get that they don't care about the sick and the poor, but I'm sure they care about votes. I can't believe they would think causing that kind of trouble would get them any votes.

There are lots of GOPTP folks who absolutely would be harmed if Cruz got his way. I could see Cruz etc. gaining votes for harming city folk or immigrants, but GOPTPers are famous for suddenly understanding why something is important when it affects them.

I keep thinking these guys can't get anymore insane...that's on me, I guess I'm slow.

The GOP should totally shut down the government again, for both the website mess and the Filibuster rule change. It will work this time, I just know it. The problem last time was that they gave up way too soon. If they just hold out long enough, America will come around.

2013-11-22 10:33:00 AM
I hate to say this, but Cruz knows he doesn't have to do anything now.

"While Sen. Cruz led a valiant effort to stop the trainwreck of ObamaCare it now seems certain that this kind of strategy is no longer needed. It's imploding all by itself and will turn into a complete catastrophe after the unions get hit next year.

Cruz and Lee understand this now:
Republican lawmakers who pushed the government shutdown to stop ObamaCare say their new plan is to sit back and watch the law self-destruct.
Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) and other Tea Party allies of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) say the threat of a shutdown is no longer necessary to defund the Affordable Care Act (ACA) now that the administration's rollout is flailing...."    - Flopping Aces Blog

The GOP health care plan is to unleash the power of the free-market on it.  They want to deregulate the health insurances system, allow them to compete across state lines and cap malpractice lawsuit payouts.

It is a plan in the same sense of pouring gasoline on a fire to get it to burn out sooner.
