Because it never snows in New Jersey in February.

Maybe Canada should have it's football season in the summer.....when it warms up to 3 degrees Celsius at night so it's above freezing.

Eagerly awaiting the new Ottawa team's first game.  Love the CFL, not as many stupid rules as the NFL for receivers & backs.
Now they need a team in Halifax to make it a proper 10 team league.  Hope it happens soon.

Quebec City would seem a more likely choice but U of Laval is so great there, I'm not sure there would be enough room for both of those teams.

It's a joke. They're still there but they just suck balls.

most of the ones who got frostbite are American players.  Ie. CJ Gable who played at USC

Championship game weather forecast (in fahrenheit) says the game is to be played at around 20 degrees, with the wind chill between 5 and 10 degrees above zero. If only this could happen in New Jersey come February.

The season opens on July 1, Canada Day.  So the season is in the summer, such as it is.  Training camp starts in early May, which is as early as you can reasonably start to play sports outdoors (in Calgary, anyways).

I wish.  Winter started a month ago.  At the Western Final last week, it was a balmy -15C or so.  We just dress like we're going ice fishing. The upside is that you can smuggle in pretty much whatever booze you want to the game.  We were a fully functional wet bar.

Phil Moskowitz: The continued existence of this league has fascinated me for 30 years.

How so?  The quality of play is superb, second only to the NFL, and a closer second than is usually claimed.  At the highest professional levels in most sports only a step here or ten pounds there is enough to make the difference between players being in the top league or in "AAA"...

A couple of years ago I crunched some average numbers from four random CFL teams and four random NFL teams (data from their websites) to help a nephew of mine write a term paper in his University program..   There are surprising differences and some long-held 'truths' are not borne out

Position                     CFL   Ht      Wt                 NFL       Ht     Wt
QB                                      6'2"    212                            6'4"   226
Center                                6'2"    313                            6'3"    294
OG NG Tackles etc            6'4"    292                            6'4"    315
Runningback/slotback        6'0"    218                            5'10"   212
wide rec.                            6'1"    203                            6'0"      202
Def. end                             6'3"     251                           6'4"     279
Linebacker                         6'1"    222                            6'2"    244
Def. Backs                          6'0"    193                            6'0"    205

Interesting, no?

When will they come to their senses and play this game in Tampa? More Canadians are within 100 miles of Tampa than Regina.

That is interesting, thanks for posting. I'm surprised that with with how popular the NFL has gotten, and considering the many attempts at lesser leagues, that CFL has so little penetration here in the states. I assume you need satellite TV to watch, which I don't have. If they had a CFL Roku channel, I'd be all over it.

You may be in luck depending on what you have for cable.  The Grey Cup is on NBC sports I believe.  reg season is either NBC sports or on ESPN3.com

For shear entertainment....the Grey Cup outperforms the SB at least 90% of the time. Close games...crazy weather...unpredictability....Grey Cup has it all.

Representative of the unwashed masses: The cats are weak... They shall make good sacrifices to Rider Nation

I was in the stands when the Riders sent out 13 men against the Alouettes at the end of the Grey Cup a couple of years ago ... the tears of Rider Nation all around me nourished my soul.

When Henry Burris and Kent Austin hoist the Cup at the 55 yard line this Sunday in front of 35000 Rider's fans ... the butthurt will be so very awesome.

Sadly I'm not surprised to see a Toronto poster put that up. You fail to see a great league in your own backyard

mostly import players who were unprepared for the cold. Import is what we call Americans. Wind Chill of -32 Celsius (-25 Fahrenheit).

I don't generally feel sorry for pro athletes, even modestly-paid ones like CFL players.  But I felt so bad for Reilly this year.  Every Eskie game I watched, the dude was getting the shiat beat out of him.  By every fourth quarter he looked like a boxer who had gone 12 rounds.  Tough guy, and I hope he succeeds, but I fear one more season behind that line and he won't be able to count to potato.

And every time he would get jacked up, they would cut to a shot of his horrified parents in the crowd.  That part was kind of funny, actually.

Even as a rider fan I can appreciate that. Winnipeg may as well see if they can draft a new team like Ottawa
