So vote Republican.

Isn't voting for the lesser of two evils working out great for us?

Imagine if people got over their fear of not voting for third party because the other side could win. This perpetuation of the D and R status quo really needs to go.

After careful review of the Opinion by senior intelligence officials and the U.S. Department of Justice, the Executive Branch has determined that the Opinion should be withheld in full and a public version of the Opinion cannot be provided.

I calls shenanigans.

Free and open societies have no place in them for secret interpretations of laws written by and for intelligence agencies.

Not entirely true

I imagine that the secret-interpretation process goes something like this:

1st Witch:
Thrice the brinded cat hath mew'd.

2nd Witch:
Thrice and once, the hedge-pig whin'd.

3rd Witch
Harpier cries:-'tis time! 'tis time!

1st Witch:
Round about the cauldron go:
In the poisoned entrails throw.
Toad, that under cold stone
Days and nights has thirty-one
Sweated venom sleeping got,
Boil thou first in the charmed pot.

And so forth in iambic meter go.

There's a line a Venture Brothers episode..."the second American Revolution...the *secret* one."

Turns out that was not a joke.

Next step is secret arrests and secret trials, I suppose.

So hey, GOP[1]... a question.

You obviously want to go after Obama, and have spent a lot of time and money recently saying things like "Benghazi" "Obamacare", and "socialism". While many a Fark thread and news hour have been filled with arguments as to the success of these efforts, even you have to admit it's been a lot of work. So much time and money spent, yet Obama is still doing his usually stuff. Even if it were to turn out vastly in your favor, the cost has been enormous.

So... why aren't you going after this feckless imbroglio with the same tenacity and zeal? It's trivial case. We now have a pile of evidence about the NSA, FISA, etc. There is even a nice and clear constitutional violation. I mean, the NSA has basically confessed their 4th Amendment violations - they are proud it!

Why are you passing up such an obvious opportunity? It doesn't even matter that Bush started some of this during his administration - it's Obama's responsibility now, and it's not like you to fold when somebody says "...but Bush!"

It's almost as if somebody is preventing you from bringing up this particular scandal. Wait - is that it? Is the NSA holding something over you on this matter? If not, then what's stopping you?

[1] or "Tea Party", if you prefer

I think such fears have ample justification, from the result of the 2000 election to the activities of the current crop of GOP dominated state legislatures. I don't think there's any reason to expect Democrats to do anything that might help the GOP win.

Others do not vote for third parties because it is statistically impossible for a third party to win a winner-take-all election on the scale of our national vote for president (even accounting for the distortion caused by the electoral college).

If you *really* want to see change, vote for and support alternate voting methods. Even IRV, the most flawed of the common alternate voting methods, is worlds better than winner-take-all.

Soldiers will shoot anyone they're ordered to shoot, even their own civilians.  That's why I'm always amazed when citizens show reverential respect to the military arm of their government which is invariably going to turn on them one day and commit unspeakable atrocities.

What was especially humorous was when an entire town was locked down under martial law just to look for two punk kids. And then once they found them, everyone cheered and clapped. I couldn't stop laughing at the absurdity of it all.

Well, usually, that would be obvious. With the GOP's last decade or so of actions, though, I'm not sure. Their powerful need to restore their "WHITE house" has overridden so many other things that were once core planks of their platform, why not this as well?

Or did we finally find the one topic that can overcome their usual racial tendencies?

Not that I don't acknowledge the part W's administration played in the Patriot Act, but have you forgotten the fact that it was written and passed by both sides of the isle in Congress?

Or the fact that it has been reauthorized and signed back into law by Obama?

Ban political parties. Then people will be forced to vote based on a candidate's stances rather than which side they are on.

Given that the government does not follow the actual Patriot Act but instead follows a secret document "interpreting" the Patriot Act, which few if any members of Congress are allowed to read or have a copy of, the actual text that was written and passed and signed, or who wrote, passed, or signed it is totally irrelevant. That's the problem.
