It's not like regular grandchildren call you on the phone. Might as well put Pablo in the will.

If you're Mexican, and over the age of 17, you definitely have a Mexican grandchild.

How is it there are still people who are unfamiliar with this scam?

wouldn't work with my old man. he would tell you to bail your own ass out,  as well as say "and what are you doing getting n trouble in a foreign country in the first place", then hang up. even if it was really his grandkid. aslo he wouldn't believe it for a second

I only have one living set of grandparents, and I couldn't see them falling for this. They aren't Canadian though, and thus not as nice.

My mother got a call from her "granddaughter",  fortunately while I was visiting and was able to listen in on the other line. A very convincing act. I may have bought into it myself, but my niece had just posted the day before on facebook about having her wisdom teeth taken out the day before. Called bro-in-law, had him put niece on the line so mom could hear.

Mom was literally on the way out the door to get cash mailed!

Ok, so you have a SNAP card. Should I call Lou Dobbs? I'm easily impressed.

Did your quoting privileges get revoked or something?

Some people wonder how this crap still works.

Well, it's a numbers game really. For every 10 old people they call; they figure 9 aren't going to fall for it or say get your own ass out. It's that 1 person out of 10 they are trying to get in touch with. Also, old people are lonely and trusting.

I know this whole thing sounds funny, and there are a million jokes to be made.  So while I hate to sound like a stick in the mud, this might be a good time for farkers to remind their parent and/or grandparents about scams like this.

My best friend's parents are going through hell right now with the dad dying of cancer and the mom trying to make him comfortable.  The mom called me last week because someone pulled the "I'm your grandson and I'm in jail in Mexico and I need you to send money" routine.  This is an intelligent woman (a retired nurse) in her late 60s or early 70s.  I had to convince her that her oldest grandson is a four year old and he could not possibly be in jail in Mexico, and she needs to let it go.

It's funny to us, but our parents and grandparents are easily fooled by internet and phone scams.

In the past few months I have gotten some weird calls and texts. The call was a prerecorded message telling me I owed $249.50 for some phone charges. It gave me a website to go to that didnt sound right and the person on the other end spoke fine but his grammar was off. The text had grammar that was off as well and told me to go to a website that ended in .tk. It said "Yours account has been locked", pretty much figured it was bs.

No, I am extra lazy and have anger management issues.
