I wonder if someone would come to my defense if I asked for a license-plate that read "farkOBAMA" and I was told no

Probably not, but you never know

This guy needs to give it a rest. Get a regular plate, and take the extra money you save and have some bumper stickers made.

I wonder if I could get this one "usukdks4$"

"It means United States, United Kingdom, Democratic Koreans for change"

I'd be open ears if someone could give me a good reason why this should be denied, even if it his quest is vain and stupid.

Because license plates are used as a form of identification. Its government property.

You have a whole bumper you can put stickers on.

Well, when you say sucks, what does that mean? Sucks what? It could be interpreted as sexual.

Why not just get a bumper sticker that says the same thing.

Sometimes the state steps in just to make sure that people you don't know don't kick your ass.  You never know who is going to fly off the handle in traffic, might as well not do something like tick off a veteran that was just called a baby-killer at the supermarket.  Putting the word "sucks" on a plate is a poor idea, it's a strong, polarizing statement.  In traffic.

2013-11-22 01:13:38 AM
I read that plate as "We sucks," not "War sucks."

Still waiting. Don't get me wrong, if it's obscene or something outside of 1st amendment protections it obviously fails

Shouldn't matter if it's sexual or not. Is it obscene? If someone can look up porn at the county library, why on god's green earth would "War sucks" or "W sucks" be censored?

To follow up on this idea, unless you think people should be prevented from wearing a shirt that says "fark the draft" in public, you're in the wrong.

Protected speech is different from the privilege of a vanity plate that a state issues.
If you feel strongly in another direction, do not tell me, tell your congressman.  You also have the ability to file suit if you feel that the government is encroaching upon your rights as enumerated in the Bill of Rights.

Actually, the more I think about it, so long as it was bashing Obama and it fit the character limit, not only would they probably not tell you no, but LePage would probably hand deliver it to your house.

vanity plates dont matter, except to the vain . Just put a bumper stcker saying your message if so inclined to say what you want to say .  I know some pay more for certain plates to back a cause, which is fine by me. But use a damn sticker if you feel so vocal as to want everyone about you to know that we should coexist , or you hate war, or hate a president, or support the Nature Conservancy .

I had BACH 3 as my plates for a long time. For JS Bach. 1 and 2 were in use. Three times stolen which I couldn't understand. Until after getting pulled over for the third "no plates" time, and the cop says "Bachelor #3?"

Ahhhhhhh.....

The political vanity plate is stupid. Not only do you look like a dick forever (Obummer and George DUMBleyou Bush), but some other jackass who disagrees feels free to key your car. Don't do it.

I think they honestly ought to suspend this practice in the US and Canada. It's like asking for a custom social insurance number.

How about it's state property and not yours. You don't have a right because you don't own the thing. You're playing by the state's rules and they get to arbitrate.
