FTA: "This action today creates a perpetual opportunity for the tyranny of the majority because it permits a majority in this body to do whatever it wants to do any time it wants to do it," Alexander said during a floor speech. "This should be called Obamacare II, because it is another example of the use of raw partisan political party for the majority to do whatever it wants to do any time it wants to do it."

So the minority should have the power? Except when you are part of the majority I assume.

Grow up.

No, it is another example of the use of raw partisan political power for the majority to do whatever it wants to do any time it finally runs out of patience with a (subjectively) unreasonable position by the minority.

They just can't stop wanking over Obamacare, can they? Even when nobody mentioned it.

This generation of politicians must be the result of an epidemic of FAS and other abuses to developing fetuses.  Maybe health education can fix this in the coming years.

Approval for Democrat Leadership hits all-time low, 37%.

Just thought you might enjoy this comment from Freeperville:

"There are about 90 judicial slots to fill. I don't think ANYONE appreciates what a disaster this is. They will be filled by extreme Liberals; every single seat. This "roll in a grenade and walk away" approach by the GOP is a disaster. America does not think like we do and there is no chance she will if this is all we do."

This from the party that made it impossible for any House member to bring a bill to the floor without the permission of the Speaker.

Minority rights is kind of the point of the Senate.  Its also the reason that representation in the Senate is even for every state rather than based on population (like the House).

When the founders set up Congress, they understood that the minority must be protected from the majority for our rights to be protected.  Various parts of the Sentate, the fillabuster included, exist to defend that ideal.

Will "Obamacare" finally supplant "-gate" as the go-to scandal naming convention?

2013-11-21 04:14:35 PM
This is the most farking idiotic thing I've ever seen. Why, precisely, should a legislative majority not be able to pass whatever goddamn legislation it chooses? Here, if David Cameron wants to fark us over we don't whinge that the minority parties aren't somehow allowed to overrule his majority. We call him a farking dick and proceed to vote the coont out.

Maybe the most honest statement in the history of Free Republic.

2013-11-21 04:15:41 PM
This action today creates a perpetual opportunity for the tyranny of the majority because it permits a majority in this body to do whatever it wants to do any time it wants to do it

Further proof that the GOP's vision of America just doesn't include democratic processes.

That's actually not even true.

Weird.  Can anyone point to even a single instance of a Republican politician saying something that was not completely and totally accurate?

Truly, this is the worst tyrannical usurpation of power since the President failed to say "Under God" when reciting a draft of the Gettysburg Address.

Benghazi was bad, but this is worse than potato Benghazis.

Yeah, I thought that, too.

Also, the split over there is about 80/20 with the majority drooling about how President Cruz is going to use this for FREEDOMS! And the minority view seems to realize that there may not ever be a Republican president again.

Nonsense. The New Confederate states will recognize ONLY Republican presidents. (Until Mexico annexes them .)

Does this mean we can Death Panel Ted Cruz then?

2013-11-21 04:19:16 PM
Let's see here, if I want to use Republican math in order to feel better:

1 Obamacare = 3 Katrinas
1 Holocaust = .5 Katrinas

Therefore, by harmonizing the quirks, we can assume:

2 Obamacares = 3 Holocausts

Good lord, this is even worse than I thought.

1. Show where the filibuster is codified in the Senate.

Failing that:

2. Show where the filibuster was codified by the founders.
