(Washington Post)   In next month's issue of Washingtonian magazine, Trent Lott calls Hillary "butt ugly." Not that there's anything wrong with that. (Scroll to 2nd item)   (washingtonpost.com) divider line 202

Good thing Trent Lott is such a hottie.

2004-01-22 11:07:51 AM
Betcha Hillary's gonna call him out to the flagpole at 3 p.m. for a rumble.

2004-01-22 11:09:00 AM
My thoughts exactly, Cola. Methinks someone's in serious need of a mirror

cola and Jmast7: I'm with you guys.

But come one, we all know that the cool thing to do is to make fun of female political leaders' looks (janet reno, katherine harris) rather than addressing their politics. Because, really, women are only around in order to look good.

we all know that the cool thing to do is to make fun of female political leaders' looks ... rather than addressing their politics

I expect not to see any more President/Chimp pictures then. Since nobody makes fun of mens' looks.

2004-01-22 11:17:43 AM
EatHam: that's mainly a reference to his intelligence (or lack of) though, not his sex appeal.

2004-01-22 11:19:55 AM
EatHam: I always thought that was more about his attitude/intelligence from the perspective of the person posting the chimp and bush pics.

Yes, I know that they were pictures of him making the same faces as monkeys, but don't you think that has a little more to do with the picture poster's veiws on his politics than his personal style, his face, or the way he parts his hair or ties his tie?

I think it does.

2004-01-22 11:20:53 AM
By the way.

Ham is delicious....mmm.

/needing lunch very badly right now (:

2004-01-22 11:22:52 AM
cola, the_pgoat, etc.:
I wasn't specifically referring to Bush. Those types of things have been around since dirt. I saw some involving Clinton as recently as yesterday.

2004-01-22 11:25:49 AM
I will get ridiculed for this but here goes nothing...

I happen to find Hillary Clinton quite attractive for a 57 year old.

2004-01-22 11:25:57 AM
EatHam: And you honestly feel that they are intended as criticism of that politician's lack of sex appeal?

2004-01-22 11:27:34 AM
EatHam: Really? That's interesting to me. It has been my observation that a female politician faces moire public scrutiny for her physical appearance than a male one.

What sort of criticism was it with the clinton pictures? I'd be interested in reading/seeing.

2004-01-22 11:29:39 AM
Hey if she wore a nice business suit and let me call her mommy, I'd totally do Hillary.

2004-01-22 11:29:52 AM
When I veiw only commented links, this headline is right before the one about the detective being "too cute".

/amused.

2004-01-22 11:36:16 AM
Good grief. I'm a Democrat and get the shivers when I see "Hillary Clinton" even in the vicinity of "sex appeal".

Somehow "butt ugly" doesn't strike me as bad as "crypto-racist".

2004-01-22 11:38:27 AM
enough about her face, let's talk about her rack!

2004-01-22 11:39:58 AM
What sort of criticism was it with the clinton pictures? I'd be interested in reading/seeing.

The clinton pictures were of a chimp morphing into Clinton - was about maybe 15 images put together like a film clip.

The reason that I bring that up is that I don't recall Clinton being considered to be a stupid person. Maybe he used to fling poo or something that would make the comparison more behavioral than physical, but I hadn't heard of that.

As far as Bush goes, I think that they're probably comparing his intelligence and/or evolutionary scale position.

I do tend to agree that female politicians face more public scrutiny for their physical appearance than men do. Of course, one of the worst things (in my experience) that you can call a woman is "fat".

2004-01-22 11:41:36 AM
Trent Lott former Ole Miss cheerleader:

2004-01-22 11:46:08 AM
EatHam:You bring up a really interesting point about women getting upset at being called "fat".

If more men than women are upset by attacks on their physical appearence, it would only make sense that their opponents would make those attacks, since they are more likely to damage a woman than a man.

Do we think Trent Lott cares how he looks? Probably not. So it wouldn't do me any good to attack his physical appearance.

So women are more obsessed with physical appearance than men are(generally) therefore, they are more vulnerable to these type of attacks and that's why people make them.

This would make a really good essay topic.

Let see...

Hillary certainly isn't a hottie like Senator "Babs" Mikulski! Rrwoor!

2004-01-22 11:54:49 AM
what's funny to me is that those two get the most bad press for how they look out of the lot of them(politicians) yet they are so dratically far apart. Reno appears to never wear make up, katherine harris is ridiculed for her make up. I guess it's just that they're extremes.

On a totally hypocritical note(:, katherine harris looks almost hot in that picture. weird.

2004-01-22 11:55:20 AM
the_pgoat - makes sense to me. Why attack someone if it's not going to hurt?

2004-01-22 11:58:18 AM
The complete package is just so rare, ya know? A hottie with smarts to match doesn't come along all that often.

john edwards is pretty good looking.

2004-01-22 12:00:37 PM
the_pgoat, did you see the photo of katherune harris on the horse in a tight tee-shirt? that would conflict you even further!

2004-01-22 12:00:49 PM
So, to solve the problem of female politicians being criticized so often for their looks, we have to get women to be less obsessed with their looks in general.

whew... that is one helluva tall order. (:

The irony is that most of the female politicians that I think look scary, look that way because they used waaay too much makeup trying to make themselves look good.

2004-01-22 12:01:05 PM
Well.. I really don't think Janet Reno is hurt by the comments. She seems like a relaxed lady when it comes to that department.

Most of the ridicule she has taken seems to mainly be about people being aggravated by the fact that she's not traditionally feminine.

2004-01-22 12:01:27 PM
I was looking for the picture that was on Drudge a few weeks ago of Harris on her horse...THAT was a hot picture...

2004-01-22 12:02:07 PM
albo: Dude, I saw the picture, and she was a stone cold fox in it! I concur.

Also I've seen her in person, and she looked fine. Normal even. I don't know if she's just incredibly unphotogenic or what.

2004-01-22 12:02:56 PM
Most of the ridicule she (Reno) has taken seems to mainly be about people being aggravated by the fact that she's not traditionally feminine.

That and the little party she had in Waco...

2004-01-22 12:05:08 PM
cola: I agree that it is much different with Harris and Reno. Harris seems like she might be upset by the comments, because it is so obvious that she's *trying* to look hot. Reno doesn't seem to give two shiats about how she looks. Did you see her on that SNL sketch wher eshe comes out in the middle of that Farrell guy's spoof of her dressed in the same outfit? It was funny as hell.

2004-01-22 12:06:18 PM
Dancin: In that case, she's criticized for her politics/actions, which is what she should be criticized for.

2004-01-22 12:10:54 PM
My new Democratic Party hottie is Nancy Pelosi. She looked great Tues nite after the POS's SOTU.

2004-01-22 12:14:00 PM
Yes, many of us around here make fun of the stupidity, and possibly the appearance, of our chimp-like "leader" by comparing his looks with those of an ape. And yes, many of us make fun of the physical appearance of (1) Hillary, (2) Janet Reno, (3) Katherine Harris, or (4) all of the above. And many of us also make fun of Rush Limbaugh for his frequent bouts with obesity. And so on.

But theres a key distinction between us doing it and Trent Lott doing it in a magazine interview, and that distinction seems to be lost on EatHam and some of the others posting above: We're a bunch of anonymous, unknown jerks posting comments on some website, and nobody really gives a rat's ass what we think. Trent Lott, on the other hand is a powerful U.S. senator and one of the leaders of and spokesmen for a major political party. One would think a person in such a situation would show a little more decorum and engage in a higher level of discourse than a bunch of internet geeks, and confine his criticism of his opponents to their actions or policies, rather than their physical appearance.

And, oh yeah, as Cola mentioned, old Trent ain't exactly a GQ model himself.

2004-01-22 12:15:48 PM
If I called a co-worker "butt ugly" I would certainly get in a little trouble around here...even without saying it in a magazine. ::nod::

2004-01-22 12:18:20 PM
Lott spokeswoman Susan Irby said: "These are inaccurate ramblings of a disgruntled writer who didn't get his book contract.

Either way, I have no problem believing that he could have said it. And he shouldn't have. However, my comments above were intended to be more general than specific.

Control, her speech after the SOTU frightened me. That was some of the creepiest 10 minutes of TV that I've ever seen.

Nancy Pelosi? She's so botoxed and tightly face-lifted that when she blinks it pulls her breasts straight up.

/gratuitous judging of a person's appearance

doccm9: How do you tell when a greenlighted thread will go live on the regular fark queue?

2004-01-22 12:29:50 PM
i really hope control was kidding....i almost vomitted when reading that. Like doccm9 said, she and Daschle were very zombie like and also about 10 creepiest minutes i had ever seen...regardless of what they were saying. She obviously gets her beauty inspiration from Joan Rivers....good god i don't know if anyone else noticed but her forehead never got a wrinkle, and those always surprised eyebrows......creepy.

and speaking of plastic surgery, anyone notice how tight hillary's face was pulled for the sotu. I was just waiting for either pelosi or hillary to ask something about dancing with the devil in the pale moon light.

when do these pols have time to get plastic surgery and recover????

2004-01-22 12:37:00 PM
drhomer, they get their surgery when congress goes on a break. and the capitol reporters don't mention surgery or toupees or such, because then they'd piss off the politician and lose their access to them.

and botox requires no recovery. Pelosi's got that permanently surprised look of the botoxed women, like singer faith hill.

Cyberluddite:

Bullshiat!

Logged off before you're reply last night...just had to say it again...who cares if Lott is the leader of a major political party? Doesn't mean he can't call it like we all see it. Kind of like Bush calling Adam Clymer an asshole. Makes him real.

I couldn't agree more. She seemed like she was either a Disneyland-style animatronic figure or heavily dosed up on Prozac, with the fake plastic smile plastered across her face while she had difficulty reading the words on the teleprompter in her constant monotone. Hell, she made even that stiff Tom Daschle look like a brilliant orator in comparison--his speech was far better than I would have expected out of him.

And yeah, while some might say that she looked quite good for a 63-year-old woman, she also looked much younger than she did 10 years ago, and it isn't the healthy climate in Washington that's reversed the aging process for her. She must have had her face needle-poked like a voodoo doll with Botox injections, as well as having some major surgery. As the old joke goes, if she gets one more face lift she's going to have a goatee.

Pggoat, just look at the gray bar above this group of links on the TF Upcoming Links page (it's also linked at the top right of any Fark page besides the main board when you're TF, where the ads would normally appear.
This one says "Thu January 22, 2004, 18:00 hours:"

Well there's no accounting for taste.

Nancy, if you're out there, call me. I wanna lobby you.
