It's nice to know that in some cities it's still 1994

2013-11-21 01:18:04 PM
I don't get this "There oughta be a law!" mindset.  I see a few people walking around like that (though that whole thing, like any other dumb fashion, seems to be going away) and it looks dumb as hell, but I don't think that there's any need for a law against it.  it's a total waste of time, both in the legislative end, and later on the law enforcement end if they actually try to enforce it.  I'm pretty sure the Constitution says you're allowed to look like a dumbass if you want to anyway.

2013-11-21 01:23:38 PM
I saw some kid with his stupid pants way low riding his bicycle.  They got caught in the chain and he flipped over the handlebars.

So there's at least one person I can think of who would have been helped but such a law.

It's about time plumbers were regulated.

2013-11-21 01:32:45 PM
The odd fashion trend is sometimes called "low riding" or "slabbing."

Great, something to add to next year's Oxford Dictionary.

In before suburban white guys start dropping knowledge on us about the origin and meaning of urban fashion trends.

After the Departments of Commerce and Education, saggy pants were the third thing that Governor Perry forgot during the debates.

Well this is just another reason to stop them and frisk them.

DOARSALOTWAIC?

I'd hate to be the receptionist.

2013-11-21 01:54:40 PM
Most of the law enforcement folks oppose these sorts of laws.

Enforcement is a waste of time, and having their pants around their knees makes these cretins easier to catch if they need chasin'.

2013-11-21 02:21:45 PM
When can I apply for the job of walking around with a bunch of belts and pulling pants up? 'Cause that could be hawt.

That is why they passed this, right? Job creation? Win-win.

2013-11-21 02:34:56 PM
Flabbergasted.  I be it.

2013-11-21 02:35:38 PM
They should make a law that bans ketchup from settling and getting watery at the top of the bottle.

I'll just leave this here. This is on Lamar avenue in Memphis.

As a bonus, it was put up with one of the guys who used to spend a lot of time with MLK.

These are probably the same people worried about oppressive regulation from the federal government interfering in their lives.

2013-11-21 02:37:57 PM
All it does is give the LEO something to claim as "probably cause" when they detain someone.

Yep.

I'd imagine the pain and injury he suffered would have provided a better lesson than anything such a stupid law could enforce on him.

As an aside, why the fark do I keep getting "Whoa!  Google Chrome has crashed" messages when I try to post here...................using IE?

I always enjoy some new slang but when did the Oxford Dictionary merge with the Urban Dictionary?

2013-11-21 02:44:22 PM
I strongly approve but only if equally applied to the fat people at Walmart

2013-11-21 02:45:18 PM
On the one hand: yeah this is the kind of thing that we should not be creating laws about.

On the other hand: it's stupid and I'm old so [TardCatGood.jpg]

Good.
When you move to the country, you want a nice view.
When you're in the city, same applies.
Pull 'em up.

2013-11-21 02:45:50 PM
in 20 years, there will be an article about all those weird laws they passed that seemed really stupid, like "it's illeagal to merry your horse in BFE, Montana," and this will be on it.

Pro-Law

1. It's stupid and make us look bad as a species

2. It's a safety hazard. Stupid person trips over his own pants and gets all lawyered up and or required medical attention on the tax payers dime

3. It is a beautification ordinance. Cities can outlaw unsightly things that make property/town look bad, hurt property values etc. Low hanging britches qualify.

4. It's stupid and make us look bad as a species

Con-Law

Low hanging britches makes it easier to identify the stupid among us.

I wonder how many oppose this law but want more government

The only thing that can stop a bad guy with saggy pants is a good guy with saggy pants.

When saggy pants are outlawed, only outlaws will have saggy pants.

Police say they'll respond to citizen complaints as well as look for violations themselves. However, don't look for cops in this Memphis suburb of just over 8,000 residents to be trading in their nightsticks for tape measures any time soon.

"We're not going to just start going out here and just stopping people on the road and seeing if we can measure them for three inches," Senatobia Alderman Don Clanton said. "I mean, we certainly won't be stopping white people or women."

2013-11-21 02:52:55 PM
Can they also outlaw walking in a dorky, hunched over manner when you wear your saggy pants?

While we are at it, why not set a fat restriction on yoga pants.

It is a class c at worse think of it more as revenue generation like traffic tickets.  Or just hand over  enforcement to  the code enforcement folks.

Did you know that wearing baggy pants is a symbol by gay men to show that they have drugs to sell?  It's true.  A guy I work with says he heard it from a cop.

As a middle-class, forty-something, suburban white guy, I've got my finger on the pulse of black youth culture.

Because that would be the end of Mexican wrestling as well. On second thought good idea

You would think this has been a trend for so long now that dad's can start putting a stop to it by showing pictures of themselves wearing sagging pants as teens to their kids.  "Ah cool son, I used to dress just like that back in the 90's.  Check out these pictures of how cool your old man was.  I think I still have a pair.  We can match this weekend!"

2013-11-21 03:00:39 PM
Good. Those pants are ignorant.

Is this really still a fashion trend? I live around a bunch of blacks and I haven't seen the saggy pants thing in years. It's all the tight skinny jean skater look now.

How low can you go?
