(Men's Fitness (UK))   Now here's a headline you don't often see: rugby World Cup, England and "success" all in the same sentence   (mensfitness.co.uk ) divider line
    More: Unlikely, Rugby World Cup, League World Cup, World Cup, England, punch-out, England captain, warm-up, tournaments

Eh? You saw those words together just two world cups ago when England were world champions.

It's the crappy Rugby LEAGUE World Cup.  Knock-off amateurs at best.  The real Rugby World Cup is not until 2015.

Maybe in the American team but elsewhere, you'd struggle to find many amateurs playing at th RLWC. Most are Super Legaue or NRL players.

Oh, and rugby union is bloody tedious.

That's funny, considering that it was Union that used to be amateur, and League professional.

/or was that the joke?

Got to say I prefer union now since the rule changes, though I preferred watching League in the Eighties--not that I was big fan of watching either back then. We played a bit of League at school (which was Union), as our rugby coach was a League player and he said it was good for fitness and tackling practice.
He wasn't wrong. Brutal game.
Modern Union seems a lot closer to League now that back when I was playing rugby.

I've played both, and from a (my) player's perspective Union is the better game. League is simple but it is stupid brutality. Union has much more depth to the game, the restarts are more logically part of the game and the physicality still allows it to be a game for every type of player.
League's pretend scrums, no stripping the ball and "you have had enough turns, give the other team a turn now" annoy the hell out of me.

As for watching the games, I grew up going to most of the Parramatta home games in the glory days of the 80s and enjoyed myself no end. But I no longer enjoy watching, perhaps because these days my team sucks? Whereas, I can enjoy watching a game of union no matter which teams are playing and no matter what level of competition it is. Country NSW B grade, Shute Shield, All Blacks take on Tonga, there is so much to enjoy in a game of union.

/still playing union
//was better at league
///just enjoyed union more
