"Let people purchase health insurance across state lines."

Remember when we did that with credit cards?  The card companies all moved to Utah and South Dakota for limitless interest rates and gutted consumer protections.

You talk about pre-existing conditions not being covered?  How about no conditions being covered?  Because that's where interstate sales of health insurance would end up.

In this case, I say it's a tie.

WTF does "inveigh" mean? I have a better than average vocabulary and I have never seen or heard that word used in a sentence.

The funny thing is ACA would head off the bullshiat related to it at the pass. I'd like to see Democrats say "Fine, buy across state lines. But you still have to follow the regulations we've made federally. Otherwise there's no point."

Hatin' on, yo.

Cuomo asked Cruz how he would replace the law he inveighs against, and as usual, Cruz dodged the question and kept on inveighing instead hater kept hatin'.

inveigh |inˈvā|
verb [ no obj. ] (inveigh against)
speak or write about (something) with great hostility: nationalists inveighed against those who worked with the British.
ORIGIN late 15th cent. (in the sense 'carry in, introduce'; formerly also as enveigh): from Latin invehere 'carry in,' invehi 'be carried into, assail,' from in- 'into' + vehere 'carry.'

i thought it was a fairly common word, myself.

Hmmm. Ask a average question, watch a Tea Partier turn into a petulant child. Rand Paul and Ted Cruz are cut from the same cloth.

JerseyTim: Oooh, he should have said tort reform. That's an answer with substance. Sorry, Ted!

Yeah, like the kind of tort reform we passed here in California over 35 years ago (in 1975) that (1) imposed a cap of $250K on non-economic damages in med-mal actions (which has never been adjusted for inflation--still $250K now, same as in 1975); (2) limited attorney contingent fees in med-mal cases, including a limit of no more than 15% in big awards; (3) shortened the statute of limitations for med-mal claims; (4) allows doctors to pay med-mal judgments over the years in installments, rather than the judgment being due all at once like in every other kind of lawsuit; and (5) lets doctors reduce the amount of judgments in an amount equal to whatever medical bills the injured party's own health insurance paid (even though the injured party or his or her employer, and not the doctor, bought the insurance coverage and paid the premiums for it).

And yeah, it did work to reduce the number of med-mal lawsuits.  Most lawyers in California won't handle them at all, because there's no money in it (and they're very expensive cases to litigate, requiring the use of lot of expensive experts).  And those lawyers that do bring med-mal suits will only do it if the injury is very severe and results in a huge wage loss claim.  So it did accomplish what its supporters set out to do: save money for insurance companies that write malpractice insurance for doctors.  Though it hasn't really done much to reduce the premiums doctors pay for that insurance--the insurance companies are just charging the same high premiums and paying out fewer claims, and making more money.

But most importantly here, it hasn't reduced health care expenses.  California's health care costs are among the highest in the nation.  Anybody who claims that "tort reform" is a useful way to reduce health care costs is either a liar or an idiot.

DERP?
Do you have a problem with any of the questions which were asked of Ted Cruz?
IF SO, please list the question and your objection.

IF NOT, what is your problem with Salon?
OR it is, I hate salon, just not this article.
Kind of like how EVERYONE HATES CONGRESS !!!! But loves their own congressman!

This is awesome.  But really, did you expect anything different from a self-promoting demagogue?

Although I must say - given his elitist academic pedigree, he should have a better answer ready.  Even if he never intends to bring an alternative before Congress, at least have a better answer.

Newt can get away with that browbeating bullshiat.  Ted's not up to the task.

Articles keep getting written claiming how smart Cruz is, I have seen Alan Dershowitz claim he was very intelligent in at least three different articles.

So are they lying, did Cruz have a stroke or TBI, is this assholish behavior just political theater to impress the Tea Party, or is Cruz just socially retarded and he can't see how this would alienate people?

Why not both?
They could be lying and he is an asshole.

The problem with the modern GOP is that during the primaries they have to cater to both halves of their party, above average and below average IQ. Which leads to things like: CUT TAXES!!!! OBUMMER IS DESTROYING AMERICA!!!! REPEAL OBAMACARE.

But when any rational adult asks rational questions, the candidate is in danger.
They either are ELITISTS and answer like rational adults or they continue to cater to the moron class.

Hence the "let people buy from other states" answer. LOL

Offering solutions is not the Republican strategy, subby.GOP strategy has always been about sowing chaos, discontent and misinformation so that the status quo is maintained.  Ted Cruz is following the game plan perfectly.

This guy is an oddball. I mean, his expressions.

Why does he genuinely look like he's:

A) about to pout and cry like a child
B) having some kind of religious vision
C) gazing with adoration into his mirror

??

Am I just being a nasty ol mean kitty at him or what?

Some photog HAS to take a pic of him where he actually looks normal.

As much as I don't live Obama- he manned up and said "that's on me" I cannot remember the last time someone anti ACA admitted any of their hyperbole was wrong/ has not panned out.

I still don't love Obummercare but at least the front man has some integrity- Cruz is the front man for bumper sticker policy and butthurt

The whole ACA thing is going to crumble and we'll never get single-payer. We're completely f*cked.

I don't see how we're going to pay for it if we don't get healthy, young people into the plans and I do not see enough of them enrolling even when they fix the site. They've really f*cked this up.

Great intentions, horrible execution. I'll wait and see, but as of right now, I think the whole thing is a giant failure.

On the other hand, we've got Capt. Caveman here and his buddies who just want the whole thing to fail so they can go back to collecting huge checks from highly profitable insurance companies who death panel more people than the Gestapo.

I hope they can salvage it, but I'm not very hopeful.

The reason they can't think of a better idea is, this was their idea. The "better idea" is single payer but they can't say that on TV.

I also think the reason Palin flubbed the newspaper question was that the only paper she could think of was "The New York Times." She couldn't say that, so she froze up.

2013-11-20 07:32:44 PM
Kudos to Cuomo for not accepting Tea Party platitudes as a substitute for governing proposals.

Uh, did Cuomo press him again after the "sell insurance across state lines" bit as you did in your article? Because otherwise I think he did get off pretty easy, Joan. Hammer this farker Cruz. He's an empty suit.

When they claim that Cruz is "smart", is it just that he's the *smartest* Republican that other Republicans have met?

I don't see how being a constant demagogue, and yet supposedly being smart enough to understand the issue is "smart", other than in the Dr. Evil sense of the word.

2013-11-20 07:42:57 PM
Apparently Cruz isn't used to being grilled.

It's sad that saying "Ok if you want to replace it what is it you are going to replace it with" is called "being grilled".

"Gotcha politics" is now defined by just asking them how or what they would do about what they are saying.

No he's like Newt. The are both idiots but they have this false air of knowledge. "Arrogant" and "smart" are not the same.
