Then you switch to proton torpedoes.

The USAF is interested in three categories of lasers. These include... high-powered lasers for offensive operations against other aircraft or ground targets.

The United States is a signatory to the  Protocol on Blinding Laser Weapons.

We will lawyer-speak our way out of that one, just like we did the UNCAT.

On a more humorous note, hit-scan weapons in videogames will be more realistic now.

What if the target area is only two meters wide?

What are these "proton torpedoes" you speak of?

The standard loadout is two Dart dumbfire missiles, and a Javelin heat-seeker.

I think their eventual goal with lasers is to kill people directly so I don't think blinding will be an issue.

I was going to point that out. The protocol is straightforward and easy to comply with. If you get blinded while we are trying to kill you or destroy your equipment, too bad so sad.

TheotherMIguy:

I would be in that group... I currently own:

1x Aurora LX (I have the first upgrade package they offered, but can't apply it yet)
2x 300i (I have the 315P upgrade package for one of them)
1x Freelancer (my latest acquisition)

Plus, I gave an Aurora LX starter package to a friend of mine as a Christmas gift last year. And yes, I am a golden ticket holder, with a bronze (real metal) citizen card, and a Star Citizen t-shirt.

Ummm, the sole purpose of these offensive laser types has nothing to do with blinding, and everything to do with turning the ENTIRE enemy target into a smoking ash pile. So that treaty/protocol means absolutely jack in this situation.

Ahhhh, yes... the XCOM Laser Cannon.  Completing that research project begins the cycle of manufacturing laser cannons, selling them, hiring more engineers and constructing more workshops to build laser cannons faster, and continuing the positive feedback loop until XCOM has more money than Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, Goldman-Sachs, Wayne Industries, and Scrooge McDuck combined.

But air superiority does not just mean being able to kill the other side's pilots, it also means being able to rain destruction on the battlefield with accuracy. Hence my choice of phrasing ;)
