I enjoy the holiday well enough. Mostly it's for the kids, though the adults have recently picked up on doing White Elephants, which makes gift giving among the grown ups a lot more fun.

And, lets be fair, for all the "war on Xmas" nonsense that pops up, it's a holiday that doesn't really have jack shiat to do with Christ, considering that the baby was born in either the spring or the fall, and the name was just a marketing ploy.

Christmas is great. It's the month eleven weeks leading up to it, with the music, the commercials, the forced and stilted bonhomie, the music, the INCESSANT JINGLING OF THE SALVATION ARMY BELLS and some of the songs that drive me crazy.

At least eggnog is plentiful.

Hi, heathens! Andy Williams here to remind you hell-bound folk that you too can celebrate the season!
Put up a tree, hang some lights & enjoy a few statutory days off at the expense of Christianity.
Just STFU with the butt-hurt at having to listen to Sally-Ann bells & carols. Nobody is listening to your snivelling bullsh*t anyway.

I farking love Christmas. Not the fake Jesus birthday party, but the lights and cocoa and presents and ice skating and trips to the emergency room due to ice skating, and the silly sweaters and snow and reindeer and Christmas trees and time off from work.

It is the best, but it doesn't start until Thanksgiving is over.  NOT A SIP OF NOG SHALL PASS MY LIPS UNTIL I'VE WOKEN FROM MY TRIPTOPHANE COMA

I'm an atheist and I like Christmas, but I like the social aspect of it, not so much the pressure to buy gifts for people. I guess that must mean I hate Christians and want them all dead or something.

I'm an atheist and I love Christmas.  The music, the food, the smells of pine and cinnamon...but I mostly love the music.  My fingers are twitching to bring out the greatest Christmas album EVER:  Phil Spector's A Christmas Gift for You.

Trying to remember the last time I was at a Christmas party that had anything to do with Christ or religion.

Can't.

I'm an atheist and I love Christmas.  I love Halloween, Thanksgiving, Easter - any excuse to get together with friends and family, and eat and drink.

I would take the creatures trying to kill me today, it's minus f*cking 30 C, with a windchill of -40. Bring on the spiders, snakes, octopi, and whatever else wants me dead.

I agree with all of this except for one thing. Phil Spector's A Christmas Gift for You is only the second best Christmas album ever after Vince Guaraldi Trio's A Charlie Brown Christmas.

/but seriously, those songs by The Ronnettes and Darlene Love? Incredible.

I'm an atheist, and I have zero interest in Christmas. I generally find that if I plan carefully I can avoid the aspects of it I most despise, that being stores packed full of people and inundated with Christmas music.

/also, I find eggnog repellent

I like giving Christians a hard time for believing that no matter what atrocities that they preform in their life, they can just ask god for forgiveness and go to a magic place in the sky.

Meh. As if there is anything religious about Christmas.

I'm fine with Christmas. It's not my favorite holiday and the relentless consumerism that leads up to it is a bit of a drag, but the underlying sentiments of fellowship and gift giving are both nice things. I'll give it a B.

Basically this for me as well. Since my government and most companies see fit to give a paid day off, I'll take it. And since other members of my family are off too, it's a good time to get together.

Christmas is cool. If we didn't have a holiday to celebrate the birth of a mythical deity, we would have to make one up. Oh... I guess that's what we did anyway! Hooray us!

a) Tryptophan

b) You're have to eat a crap ton of turkey to get enough tryptophan to feel any effects at all, let alone a "coma". In reality, it's probably the three bottles of wine that made you sleepy -- or just overeating in general.

So nice of someone from the Turkey Council™ to join us in this thread.

Yeah. In the mountains of Virginia, all the winteryness goes well with the traditional holiday stuff. If I was in, say, Florida - gawd no.

There is no threat at all that Christmas is not going to happen this year.

History tells us that the only person that would cancel Christmas is Santa Claus.  And by history I mean fictional Christmas shows and movies, which is kind of the same this as Palin's book.
