Wellll, if they all liquidated everything, all at once, they could probably send the economy back to the Stone Age. But, that's unlikely.

Even if they could pull off something like that; the stock market would close before it could turn into a shiat storm.

Is this the weekly article about how the stock market is just fine and we should continue to put our retirement savings into it with nary a worry?

/carry on then

I've been saying that the rush to sell when most the younger people think it's all a scam would cause a crash, and they're now hoping that international investors will snap up our stocks when at the same time they'll be investing in the emerging markets.

Spent so much time concentrating wealth no one has the smaller shares of wealth to purchase the instruments that represent wealth. It's all paper wealth now, invested in depreciating assets and companies that are worth something because they have a "stock value".

There's going to be a weird inflation/deflation action in the future. Intangibles are going to zero while infrastructure goes up.

Would rather a boomer than a millenial for a neighbour. From what I can figure out, millenials had everything given to them all the way to Uni/College - then freak out when they graduate (or flunk) and discover everything from that point on is not given but earned... over time of all things.

I notice it big in the permaculture groups/forums I am active in, they are genuinely angry at other generations that they don't have automatic access to land, as soon as they take interest in growing things. It is like they think this is some great generational conspiracy going on, and they are the first poor young people to ever walk the planet.

"Bu-but, you had land at 21!"
"Yeah, I left school and worked from 15"
"But we can't do that  - it would make us a loser"
"You think I wasn't?"
"What-eveeer - I just make  a kickstarter page"
/but I am just a cynical bastard Xer

Never worry our policy makers are busy making sure as many old people as possible will not be able to retire, thus leaving their 'assets' in the market. Seriously people think raising the retirement age is about 'fixing social security', instead it's about preventing people from retiring then selling real estate and drawing down their 401k's and pensions.

Gen-x member here chiming in agreement. Kids have always thought they were entitled to everything asap, but the millenials were the first to truly be given everything for nothing and expecting their opinions to be immediately listened to.

Not sure how things operate in your neck of the woods, but in our backwards little island every single working person invests in the stock market indirectly via their compulsory superannuation. I think that is sitting at about 1.6 trillion currently - which doesn't sound like much but there aren't many of us.

The Greatest Generation served up the globe to the boomers on a silver platter, ripe for the raping, and oh boy did they. But yeah, its the Millenials, who will be saddled by impossible amounts of national debt for the rest of their lives, who are the ones on the take.

Oh come now - you think the millenials are not going to kick the can down the road as far as humanely possible as well? They are just pissed that the can has gotten bigger so it is going to take more effort to kick again.

Randolph Duke: Good, William! Now, some of our clients are speculating that the price of gold will rise in the future. And we have other clients who are speculating that the price of gold will fall. They place their orders with us, and we buy or sell their gold for them.

Mortimer Duke: Tell him the good part.

Randolph Duke: The good part, William, is that, no matter whether our clients make money or lose money, Duke & Duke get the commissions.

Mortimer Duke: Well? What do you think, Valentine?

Billy Ray: Sounds to me like you guys a couple of bookies.

Randolph Duke: [chuckling, patting Billy Ray on the back] I told you he'd understand.

It will be quite entertaining to see your reaction in 2040 or 2050 when your generation is blamed for not correcting the world's deficiencies. Perhaps you should get started, instead of complaining that you never had a chance.

My point is we're up to our gazoinkies in people who are to blame, and none of them - as an alleged demographic or subset - ARE to blame for much of anything as far an economic woes.  It's mostly greedy pricks gutting this joint like a fish and it's a tidy little club and if you got the cover charge, you can play.  Age, gender, race, or social  proclivities notwithstanding.  The rest of it is a bunch of flags they tossed out and said "ONE OF THESE IS YOUR FLAG!".  And we believed them, picked one up, and started barking blame at each other.  Ha ha.  We got bulsh*tted like a cripple at a snake oil tent.

I talked a some old guys that used to live in what are now considered really bad neighborhoods.  Both said the places were nice places to live until the jobs left. One because the shipyard closed, and the other because transit and freeway construction made it unpossible to get to work.  The time between the jobs leaving that places turning into crime ridden shiatholes was 'less than five years' A lot of people tried renting their houses out, but with no good jobs, the rents are low, low rents, no money for maintenance. lot of people just let the banks foreclose. One thing, those houses were all built out of old growth redwood, hardwood and plaster, most of them survived 30+ years of neglect. Trashed on the inside, but but still sound. Your modern house made of glued timber and OSB board with PVC pipes ain't gonna make it.

I grew up in a house with plaster walls and took it for granted. When it came time to get out of renting, I purchased a 10 year old townhouse. Now, if I sneeze hard I end up with a new hole in the wall. I've already decided I'm selling the thing in the spring and moving back into an apartment. I have no reason to own a house for now so I'll let the equity I currently have grow in an investment account (the house is all equity, no debt). When I'm ready to buy again, I'll be approaching my purchase with a very different set of criteria than I did the first time.
