Turnabout is fair play, I suppose.  Even better: no one wants to read a National Review blog post so we all just assume Subby is 100% right.

Crap - someone beat my high score.

I'm sure this thread will dovetail nicely with the conservative humor one we have going on down the way.

No fair Libs. The gun nuts have already decided that they are the real victims of Sandy Hook, and have decided to make the anniversary "Guns Save Lives Day"

what_now: "Guns Save Lives Day"

Wow. And without catching the slightest whiff of the irony raging around that whole concept.

Subby has apparently mastered conservative humor.

My usual moderate disdain for people has been turned up to rage hate.

Wow, I'm truly surprised the Brady Bunch, Bloomberg, Sugarmann, and various fark trolls will vacate the earth directly above at least one of the graves long enough for that group's inconsiderate pro-gun observance.

Deflection, kill the messenger, etc.

It's a stupid idea and tasteless, and gun control advocates who support this type of thing are only making the idea of gun control look bad. Like the laughable Nintendo video game rip-offs PETA made around Pokemon.

Also, I'm pretty sure it's not humor. At least< I don't find it funny.

Also, someone's butthurt that college conservative groups keep being exposed as being deranged farkwits tinged with racism.

Which is pretty dumb, since it was clear from the start that the gun control bill was going nowhere and was just an attempt to look busy.  The fact that the proposed legislation wouldn't even have stopped the tragedy that spawned it should have indicated to everyone that the Dems weren't serious.  There's no reason to look stupid when all you're doing is responding to the other side's publicity stunt.

I'd play that.

I agree. I can't stand people that are trying to curb unnecessary violence either. Like the bulk of Vietnam protestors, what a bunch of un-American a-holes. Imagine how many more Americans could have gloriously died for a failed policy if not for them

Why does Fark allow some links to white supremacist pedophile hate sites like NRO, FOX, American Thinker, Breitbart, Free Republic, etc., but not others, like StormFront, HammerSkins, NAMBLA, and so forth? Not that I'm complaining; it just seems like if they are going to give voice to some segments of the Republican voter base, they should give voice to ALL segments of the Republican voter base.

2013-11-19 04:42:02 PM
The game also has a "gun control mode," which allows players to attempt to carry out the massacre using a katana

Why am I just hearing about this now?   I would so play this.

The event was announced Thursday by The Second Amendment Foundation, based in Bellevue, Wash.

It's kind of a wakeup call when the derp isn't so far away as the other Washington.

Bellevue is a frustrating hellhole.

Pretty much. It's like seeing someone try judo when they hear that judo is using your opponent's strength against him and so their tactic is to say "Okay, punch yourself!"

Never heard the point described better.  It's like "evolution is a religion" type idiocy, to a lower extreme.  Where did you hear this term?

You frankly deserve an infected version that wipes your hard drive clean.

Go brag about being insensitive to gun violence somewhere else.

Ok, I liked the headline, but before somebody claims that nobody can provide evidence that gun control laws save lives, let me offer the following:

On Sept 16, Aaron Alexix entered building 197 on the Navy Yard and went on a shooting spree. Prior to the event, he sought to purchase a handgun and since the laws would have delayed his getting the gun he purchased a less restricted shotgun.  The store he purchased the shotgun from had a shooting range and I would have to think he may have tried to fire a few rounds before the shooting. During the shooting spree, he killed a guard and acquired a 9mm hand gun.

I recently spent a few days back in building 197, and I noticed that in three areas where he was firing the 9mm down long hallways, he was hitting the far wall near the ceiling (we have high ceilings approximately 12 feet).  This makes me believe that he had little familiarity with a 9mm and was either jerking the trigger, or consistently mis-reading the sights.  If he had been able to purchase a handgun when he originally wanted to, I am convinced that more lives would have been lost that day, quite possibly my own.

2013-11-19 04:52:43 PM
The conservative version starts out with the shooter in a CIA black site being brainwashed by the government. Seemed like kind of a Black Ops rip off.

Looking at the headline makes me think this wasn't someone who is "pro gun control", especially if the "control" part is using a different weapon, as mentioned in the thread above me. This is just a lunatic making a violent game about a tragic event.

Even the trolls want to play it, what's that say about this "game"?

Saiga410: I'd play that.

Also, using "gun control" is not the way the public views it, it's about limiting unnecessary war-type weapons in a domestic setting. Have your guns, that's fine, whether you hunt or collect or whatever, but you don't need the biggest most expensive tiny peen assault rifle you can find, and you certainly don't need any weapons if you're crazy.

The latter, but since there just was a headline mocking conservative humour, somebody had to reach for a NO U.

[jon-stewart-you're-not-helping.jpg]

The only non-NRO link I could find was WTNH, which is pretty light on actual information as well as being mobile-hostile.

The only remotely viable point the game attempts to make has to do with gun safes, which is of course bullshiat, as even if the Lanza household had locked up its guns in a safe, Lanza's mom would presumably have had the keys to the safe on her.

Sounds like a mod for the Shadow Warrior remake. Although hearing "Who wants some Wang?" in a school may be absurd enough.

Any relation to the award-winning Super Columbine Massacre RPG?

2013-11-19 05:07:04 PM

Jackson Herring: conservative cargo cult debating tactics

Maybe not exactly. My understanding of the "Cargo Cult" tactic in debating was: Claim that re-creating the ephemera of a previous 'good' era would lead to a return to actual good times.

In historic (South Pacific) cargo cults, the islanders would recreate (usually with straw and stick -- and usually adorably) the planes, buildings and ships of the US military in an effort to bring back the plentiful times associated with the US military presence (Spam for everybody!).

Here's a quick-and-dirty version of the contemporary fallacy: conservatives sometimes suggest/imply that if we all were more like Ozzie and Harriet, we could again enjoy the plentiful times that Ozzie and Harriet lived in.

(For some reason they prefer the Ozzie-and-Harriet idea to the actuality of stuff like the G.I. Bill, the
Federal Aid Highway Act of 1956, the space program, etc., etc., etc.)

2013-11-19 05:07:04 PM
This is on newgrounds.com filed under the same list as the super-edgy columbine RPG that came out 10 years ago, right?

2013-11-19 05:08:41 PM
The game is available on several websites, has been removed from popular flash site Newgrounds.

Well, fark.  I bet it WAS filed under that same list.

Does it involve the systematic gathering of fake parents and set decorating to create a tragedy to promote gun control?

/Aurora never happened

Remember folks:

Politicizing a tragedy to support a cause that is harmful and may have contributed to the tragedy:

Acceptable

Politicizing a tragedy to support a cause that attempts to keep similar tragedies from happening:

No. Unacceptable

Indeed - completely derivative of an existing liberal joke. That's the hallmark of conservative humor. Well, that and general meanness.

Also I am pretty sure the game isn't meant to be funny. In the same way monopoly was used to teach economic illiterates the value of trust busting.
