FlashHarry: in other news, john kerry beat george w. bush in the election of 2006.

And Al Gore beat Bush in 2000.

Okay, okay...now I'm just being silly.

Yes, Fox News. Sure RoMONEY would have won.

Now tell us how everything would have been so awesome if the Confederacy had won, or if Luke Skywalker's Proton Torpedoes had missed and the Rebel Alliance was vaporized on Yavin.

It's an interesting question because, had Romney won, the Democrats would not be taking the country to edge of fiscal disaster every three months the ways the repubs do; as a result, the wheels of government would turn much more smoothly and the sizable contingent of "no new hires until a repub is once again in the White House" business owners would probably make for a more flourishing economy. The tide would definitely be rising, though there is still a question of whether it would float all boats.  There is certainly an element of "elect us or we will make your life a living hell" to the repub way of doing things that hasn't been on the Democrats' horizon since the 1970's.

On the other hand, if Romney were president we would most likely be embroiled in shooting wars in Syria and Iran. I doubt our beleaguered armed forces can keep up this relentless state of conflict much longer without something giving--perhaps an unexpected and humiliating defeat, perhaps actual mutiny among troops being sent back into combat for the umpteenth time. A well-coordinated attack on the poor by the White House and the House of Representatives might very well lead to civil unrest in this country. The last time the repubs brought the economy to the teetering edge of collapse, they had the good sense to drop the hot potato in the black guy's lap. They never quite seem to learn thier lesson.

Obama stopped campaigning for President, and his poll numbers went down.

Romney stopped campaigning for President and his poll numbers went up.

I think there's a lesson in there somewhere.

This if cours assumes Romney polls would be any better. By this point he would likely be shooting bums to show how he is all bootstraps and called 99% of Americans as c@&c suckers who should die of AIDS.

Let that be a lesson for the Republicans - you have to lock your candidate in an isolated chamber for 54 months and never let anyone see or hear or even think about their existence. It's the only way to win.

whidbey: Aura226: And then we would have Romneycare Instead of Romneycare.

It's cute that you think ACA is the same thing. Shouldn't you be complaining about the Website and how it's Obama's 19th Katrina?

Yes. I do think ACA is like Romneycare, My source is liberal Nobel prize economist Paul Krugman. And no I'm not going use the 19th Katrina Argument because I'm not a farking conservative.

BunkoSquad: Does this disheveled man look like Presidential material to you?

Oh my God his hair is so unkempt. He couldn't possibly be a better president than Obama.

Coulda. Shoulda. Woulda.

/Run electable candidates and you don't have to write stories like this.

Pretty sure you are, because you're using their busted arguments. Liberals aren't making such blatantly dishonest comparisons.

This is Paul Krugman argument "And you've just described the Massachusetts health reform, aka Romneycare, which in turn is basically the same as Obamacare

There are no more conservative alternatives - not unless you give up on the whole idea that everyone should have coverage. There are alternatives to the left - single-payer, VA-style government provision - but Obamacare is already as conservative as a plan to make health insurance more or less universal can be"

Tonight on "Math Republicans can do to make themselves feel better"... a new poll!

Romney would have been a horrible rubber stamp president.

One who would have increased economic disparity, gutted social programs, sold out the environment and turned back the clock on any progress on civil rights while gearing up for war on Iran.

A bullet dodged.
