As long as they comply with the ancient "if he hollers, let him go" rule, what's the harm?

Maybe they should work on catching Oklahoma State's QB first.

As an ex student at the U of Texas, I'd just like to say that it's nice to see that the group that taught me I didn't want to be a conservative is still up to their bat shiat crazy antics.

Juneteenth is amazing.

The trees are full of ropes, hood wearing Christian knights patrol the campus on horseback throughout the night and the glow of burning crosses can be seen for miles.

I love freedom so much.

The Young Conservatives of Texas say some of its members will walk around campus on Wednesday with an "illegal immigrant" label on them.
"Any UT student who catches one of these 'illegal immigrants' and brings them back to our table will receive a $25 gift card,"

Cancelled or not, they've done their job with the labelling. They've now given Joe Arpaio a new idea.

You can spend those cards anywhere, from Rush Limbaugh's site all the way to Glenn Beck's site. You know, anywhere.

the head of the group's University of Texas chapter, Lorenzo Garcia, said he cancelled the event because he feared retaliation from the university and he also worried that it would "create a safety issue for our volunteers."

Oh, looky...the conservatives got a "his-panic" guy to do their dirty work for them. That's because pulling this sort of shiat is totally NOT racist if one of their token brown pets, er, people does it, you know.

They're just trying to show how the lives of illegal immigrants are really just an elaborate game of "hide and seek." What's the big deal?

I'm torn, and since I've never lived in Texas nor Austin I'm not even qualified to speculate, but where does behavior like this really fall on the following spectrum:

0----------------5------------------10
IRL                                        Clueless
Trolling                                   Morons

The problem is that you've depicted your spectrum in two dimensions when it's actually a three-dimensional figure that loops back upon itself, so that the high end and low end each actually occupy the same point.

College Republicans are always at a point where they haven't yet learned to hide their shiat behind a veneer of dog whistles and pre-packaged messaging. So while they're extremely unpleasant assholes, they're useful in reminding folks about what exactly the GOP is.

Hmmm... I could probably add another dimension to split out "trolling" to "sincere" on the abscissa and "thought-out" to "drunken blunder" on the ordinate axis.  Not easy with ASCII art, especially with non-fixed character width text.

The problem isn't that people don't understand conservative humor, the problem is people do understand it.

Conservative humor is, at its core, cruel. Not "tongue in cheek", not good natured ribbing, just flat out cruel and degrading.

The true purpose of comedy in most contexts is to allow us to point out flaws, either our own or others, while releasing rather than creating tension. Laughter is the result of that tension release. Conservative "humor" does just the opposite: it creates that tension. People get it, but the tension it creates keeps folks from laughing.

It would be fun to play 'pick lettuce all day' or the 'nanny 2 bratty kids' game or 'clean motel rooms'.

The college kids should play those games.

Maybe not...so please continue with comparing this "hilarious game" to the slaughter of 6 million people. Because wanting people to abide by immigration law is exactly the same.

A liberal pundit.  Conservatives fantasize that all non-true-believers watch MSNBC with the same religious fervor that conservatives watch Fox News and listen to conservative talking heads on the radio.  I only know who Martin Bashir is because the liberal, lamestream MSM was blasting him for inappropriate comments about Sarah Palin today.

Ambivalence: Conservative humor is, at its core, cruel. Not "tongue in cheek", not good natured ribbing, just flat out cruel and degrading.

I find the same to be true but I wonder if it is confirmation bias on my part, that I don't "get it" because I don't want to.

Well said--it pokes fun at a subject instead of, despite how uncomfortable any subject can make you, allow you to find the humor in the situation. Good humor reveals the absurdity in both the comedian's point of view (which mirrors our own usually) and the issue itself. Conservative humor only attempts to mock...well minorities generally for being minorities.

But 100% of the time when a liberal does something offensive, stupid, or inane, well, who listens to them anyway.

Well, what would be the joke here that we are supposed to "get?"  That the mock illegal immigrants are ordinary students at the college, walking amount their peers?  That these mock illegal immigrants have a bounty on their head, so that ordinary people have an incentive to catch them and turn them in?Those aren't jokes - the first is a fact, and the second is a policy proposal for how to deal with illegal immigrants in the US.  You aren't missing the joke, there's just nothing funny about this stunt.
