Elegy: Ambivalence: Did we ever? Really? That term was coined by republicans as an attempt to tie it around obama's neck so he wouldn't get reelected. It was never used seriously by democrats.

I've been assured multiple times on Fark that democrats love the name Obamacare. The reasoning goes that in 50 years the ACA will be recognized as a seminal piece of legislation like social security, and the name "Obamacare" forever been links the legislation to a democrat president by name.

So yes, really.

"Some people say" is not the basis of a party behavior as a whole. By and large, democrats (elected or professional pundits) refer to it as ACA or some variation. Hell, I have occasionally been known to call it obamacare as a matter of expedience (because it's become such common vernacular) but not as a means of basking in obama's reflected glow.

The idea that the party as a whole are running away from the term is ridiculous because it was never commonly used by elected democrats to begin with.

This.  I use them interchangeably.  If anything, I've seen conservatives using "ACA" more often.  I think because it is just shorter.

I've seen conservatives using ACA lately too. I think it's because they know now that they won't be able to repeal it before January 1st and have that realized that once it kicks in, many people won't want to give it up no matter what it's called. If the GOP keeps calling it Obamacare they won't be able to as easily make the pivot from trying to get rid of it to taking credit for it.

Aside from the first Obama-Romney debate? Or do you not consider the President serious when he said he'd "become fond of this term"?

They called it Obamacare before hand to appease the ego of Dear Leader.  Now that it's clear that it is a complete clusterf*ck, they will call it Potatos to protect the ego of Dear Leader.

I call it shiat. Because that is what it is.

I use ACA among people who will know what that is, and Obamacare elsewhere. Long term I still think it was a bad move by Republicans for reminding everybody who is responsible for giving them access to health insurance. The website thing will blow over, but the insurance will stick around.

I've noticed the republicans are ever so slowly starting to call it the ACA once in a while. It's almost like some of them know the website ooga booga isn't going to last long. When the website is functioning like it is supposed to the talking point on cancelations goes away as well because people will have an affordable option that is actually better.

Let's not forget that they kicked the budget/debt ceiling fiasco all the way down the road to Jan 2014. They only have a handful of working days to get that done. So the news cycle will be bored with the ACA and we will be back at budget showdown mode before we know it.

I predict that will be another tantrum over the ACA/Ocare will be thrown during the next budget showdown. The usual House teatards will be a little over 10 months away from another election and they could care less about the national brand of the GOP. They are playing to their base and will be full retard mode until 11/4/2014.

In short the dems need to just ride it out. The teatards will snatch embarrassment from victory all on their own in due time.

You can call it what you want but I'd bet $100 that if you asked 1000 random folks what the ACA was they wouldn't know, but they'd sure as heck know what Obamacare was.

It is hilarious seeing the "I ALWAYS CALLED IT the ACA" folks here on Fark....  If someone you know wants a turd polisher for Christmas, you better let them know the bad news now instead of letting them wait. There are no more left anywhere because the usual suspects already bought them all.

I also find it amusing seeing folks here who throw around the term "teabagger" at any opportunity getting upset about the term "Obamacare."

Obama took ideas intended to help the poor and exploded the taxpayer funding of them 1000x to create a larger pool of dependency to vote on people like him.  We should call them ObamaSheep.

I guess HuffPo didn't get the memo.

And yes, Obama himself embraced the term in October 2012, using it in speeches dozens of times.

And good for him. It's his baby. There's nothing wrong with attaching his name to it, good or bad, and it's going to happen whether he "wants" it to or not. He should be PROUD to attach his name to it, if he's proud of the legislation.. shouldn't he?

Rhino_man: Swampmaster: So, we will now do a "Comment log review to see all the democrat f@rk3rs who cheered so drunkenly for this legislation over the last few months...

"With the president's approval ratings at record lows, a broken website and Obama under fire for his pledge that people could keep their plans, the "Affordable Care Act" has returned.

The president didn't say "Obamacare" once..."

Hey, it's a written law right?  No changes/ no complaints/ no do-overs...

/"Youhave to  pass the [health care]  bill so that  you can  find out what's in it!" Nancy Pelosi
//"Suppose you were an idiot, and suppose you were a member of  Congress; but I repeat myself." -  Mark Twain

Allow me to explain how reconciliation works.  The House and Senate each pass a version of the same bill, then a reconciliation committee is formed to come up with a final version that is supposed to be a compromise of the two.  That bill is then presented to the President.

So yes, we had to pass the Senate version of the bill to find out what would be in the final version of the bill, which had not yet been created.

Well, yes, but this wasn't the context of Pelosi's comment.  She was talking to a constituent group, and saying that they wouldn't realize the benefits until it was passed.  She wasn't, as conservatives seem to suggest, talking to her caucus or dodging a question about what was in the bill.

I think you give them to much credit.  I think many of them have actually convinced themselves that Obamacare is now a failure.  You are getting "I told you so" more and more often.

They've done that echo-chamber thing where the convince themselves of what the want to be true.  You know that thing that makes them look like fools when the delusion inevitably collides with reality.
