mrshowrules: James!: I still call it Obamacare.

This.  I use them interchangeably.  If anything, I've seen conservatives using "ACA" more often.  I think because it is just shorter.

I've seen conservatives using ACA lately too. I think it's because they know now that they won't be able to repeal it before January 1st and have that realized that once it kicks in, many people won't want to give it up no matter what it's called. If the GOP keeps calling it Obamacare they won't be able to as easily make the pivot from trying to get rid of it to taking credit for it.

I think you give them to much credit.  I think many of them have actually convinced themselves that Obamacare is now a failure.  You are getting "I told you so" more and more often.

They've done that echo-chamber thing where the convince themselves of what the want to be true.  You know that thing that makes them look like fools when the delusion inevitably collides with reality.

Since Obamacare became law in March 23, 2010, the GDP has increased by 8%, unemployment has dropped from 9.9% to 7.3%, and the DOW has climbed from 10,000 to 16,000.

That's change we can believe in.

Funny, just last week it was still being held a great piece of legislation. Now Dems are trying to change the terms in hopes people are dumb enough to think that the ACA and Obamacare are two different things.

2013-11-19 02:32:10 PM
is there really nothing else worthy of threads on the politics tab other than the ACA?? I'm really farking tired of the trolls and the repeated bad (and good) information. there's really nothing else to discuss here, can we maybe move on to something else?

Conservatards: It's the law, you're not getting rid of it, shut the fark up and move on.

Libulardos: It's not farking perfect, get over it, it will get better with time.

No, I don't, since he wasn't.

Elegy: Ambivalence: Did we ever? Really? That term was coined by republicans as an attempt to tie it around obama's neck so he wouldn't get reelected. It was never used seriously by democrats.

I've been assured multiple times on Fark that democrats love the name Obamacare. The reasoning goes that in 50 years the ACA will be recognized as a seminal piece of legislation like social security, and the name "Obamacare" forever been links the legislation to a democrat president by name.

So yes, really.

Which is not the point at hand. The question was "Did we ever really?" and the answer is, for the most part, an emphatic no. Not that I expect you to let facts get in the way of your righteous rant.

Allow me to explain how reconciliation works.  The House and Senate each pass a version of the same bill, then a reconciliation committee is formed to come up with a final version that is supposed to be a compromise of the two.  That bill is then presented to the President.

So yes, we had to pass the Senate version of the bill to find out what would be in the final version of the bill, which had not yet been created.

Lionel Mandrake: SlothB77: Lt. Cheese Weasel: "You want the law to have approval rating higher than POTUS has," a Democratic official said Monday.

Lulz. That shouldn't be too hard. Just keep polishing that turd, it'll work out.

In a few more weeks, they will wish 0bamacare had favor-ability ratings as high as the POTUS.

The rumors of Obama's demise have been greatly exaggerated.  Again.  *yawn*

I don't know, I think he's guaranteed he'll never be elected again.

2013-11-19 02:46:12 PM
I think the implication here is that Democrats are trying to distance themselves from the ACA by removing the leader of their party's name from its commonly used, though not official, title. This, by inference, would indicate they believe the act itself is toxic politically, at least in the short term.

There seems to be some confusion.
