Anyone have a link that doesn't go to The Blaze?

Well, he's not going to be TOTALLY cool.
He is still a pope.

2013-11-19 08:35:33 AM
To be fair, most old people can't stand today's adolescents.

2013-11-19 08:38:12 AM
The church will rape it out of them.

Thankfully, Francis moved to a smaller lawn than previous popes.

Google finds this incomprehensible page:

and this PDF
http://www.stmichaelsrc.com/attachments/article/8/2013-23%20June%20B UL LETIN.pdf

Which urges "true progress" over "adolescent progress."  Sure doesn't sound like any kind of political statement

WTF is adolescent progressiveness? For that matter infant progressiveness, prepubescent progressiveness, or adult progressiveness? Must be better in the original italian.

Pants full of macaroni!!: What's the matter with kids today?

The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers.

Surely a world leader would only use that word to apply to liberals inside the United States and not in some entirely different way.

/Because it's all about us, right?

2013-11-19 08:45:51 AM
The church is still awful but I like him better than what we had before (so far).

The Blaze twisted his words a bit (but did that really need explaining?), basically he said don't compromise your faith just so you can add "worldliness" as some sort of notch on your belt.

I'm not a fan of "globalized uniformity", either. Why can't we just accept different cultures and creeds without judging them? Do we really need one homogeneous global whatever to get along? There will always be assholes.

Sounds like the parents can't do their job.

Seriously, they're just horrible.  Why can't they be like we were, perfect in every way?

To be fair, he's certainly leader of a group of individuals very well acquainted with single-mindedness, so I'd say he's got relevency as an expert on the topic.

/I'll still take adolescent progressiveness over infantile blind faith

True, the requirements to be Pope are actually a bit more than a holey chair and a strong neck.

/Although not much more, looking at some of the people they've had in the role.

Wait, so children gobbled up the Pope's dainties?

I have no idea wtf the article/pope is saying. It sounds like a bunch of Palin-like catch phrases strung together to me.

I can't wait to see what ol' Glenny has to say when the Pope finally denounces Randian objectivism.

Right here. They picked this guy for a reason. He sells the Benz, embraces a disfigured guy, talks about a bunch of nice-sounding Jesuit stuff, and all those stories about pedophiles fall off the front pages.

Why would he have to, why would Objectivism even get a moment's notice from the Pope?

And why would Beck care. As long as the Mormon Church doesn't go around promoting social justice then he's got nothing to worry about.

From here:
And referring again to the passage in the Book of Maccabees, in which all nations conformed to the king's decree and adopted customs foreign to their culture, the Pope pointed out that this "is not the beautiful globalization, unity of all nations, each with their own customs but united, but the uniformity of hegemonic globalization, it is - he said - the single thought: the result of secular worldliness."
And Pope Francis warned that this happens today. Moved by the spirit of worldliness, people negotiate their fidelity to the Lord, they negotiate their identity, and they negotiate their belonging to a people that God loves.
And with a reference to the 20th century novel "Lord of the World" that focuses on the spirit of worldliness that leads to apostasy, Pope Francis warned against the desire to "be like everyone else" and what he called an "adolescent progressivism".

TL:DR:  Don't sell out your faith in God just to be one of the "cool" people and fit in with the crowd.

/The Maccabees were serious badasses

The Blaze took one half of one statement out of context and flipped it so they could use it to work backwards to their position?  Must be Tuesday...

A Blaze link? Not clicking.

So has Glenn Beck used his chalk board to link Pope Francis to George Soros, the death of Vince Foster, the Federal Reserve and Obama yet?

Those damn adolescents are too old for the clergy.

I didn't get the memo I guess.

Um OK.  So is the new Pope awesome now or is he just too liberal to be taken seriously?

2013-11-19 11:29:27 AM
considering moral relativism has been the largest accusation against the pope from the church's more conservative factions, a clarifying response was to be expected. I'm curious how said factions will receive it.

SOUNDS LIKE POPE CONDEMNS DEMOCRATS AND SATAN-OBAMA

Break away from the USA is the only way. The nation is gone and should not be fixed so satan can just destroy it again. We must form a new homeland here in North America where people can once again live in Freedom.

Thank you, Pope Francis, for the same strawman argument against globalization every single dumbass has ever trotted out.

/Goddamnit, you idiot, turn your brain on
//I don't care if you like it or not, globalization is not going to destroy your faith in God, or destroy cultures--that's colonialization, and it's already happened

Meh, the basic message is that change for change's sake is not always going to be good. It's important to know your values and stand by them to show you what kind of change is best, even if that sometimes means no change. I have a hard time having a hard time with that.

I have to say, I like today's kids a lot more than I liked my contemporaries as kids. Of course, I don't have the benefit of quoting famous Greeks with my sentiments.
