fusillade762: Rickenbacker: I don't see it as a total money grab.  Sure, they all want/need paid (some more than others).  I see it more as a group of guys who were once good friends, created something magical, and now are approaching their own shuffle off this mortal coil.  Maybe I'm just being a sentimental old fool, but maybe it's just a grand way of saying "let's not die hating each other".

Dwight_Yeast: I actually think Terry Jones has moved on the furthest; he went back to school, finished his doctorate and now presents history documentaries, mostly on the Middle Ages, which is his field. His last one, on 15th century roads through Wales was a lot more interesting than it sound.

Terry Jones' history documentaries are shiate and are lite on facts and heavy on sneering, smug bias. Well, the one on the Crusades isn't bad but it wasn't paced well -- it takes 1.5 hours just to get through the first Crusade (which is done well), then rips through the next three Crusades (covering a few hundred years) in about 20 minutes, and ends rather abruptly.

But the worst is his documentary on Roman Britain. Here, a Welshman, self-professed descendant from the Celts, describing the highly sophisticated opulence and splendor of his ancestors until those mean ole Romans came and tore everything down. You can practically hear the seething rage in his voice as he takes every opportunity to discredit and disparage a civilization that hadn't been around for 2000 years. As if his life would have turned out much better if the Romans hadn't conquered Western Europe.

That's right, Terry: The Romans were the REAL barbarians. But they still beat your ass.

TimSTP: Michael Palin's the only one who's really moved on. He's totally reinvented himself with his adventure travel TV shows which are pretty entertaining. Smart guy.

"All right... all right... but apart from better sanitation and medicine and education and irrigation and public health and roads and a freshwater system and baths and public order... what have the Romans done for us?"
