Dow Jones and the Temple of Doom: It's hard to read that story without tearing up a little.

Nah, think it just made us tear up because they placed the pictures where they belonged in the story instead of a caption less slideshow at the end of the article.

/i keed, sweet story

Animals are companions, not "pets". Jesus Christ. When are we going to get over our speciesism?

2013-11-19 03:05:53 AM
If you prize your pet that much, you don't take no for an answer. If you have time to grab them and toss them in the safe room with you, you do just that. Here, before inclement weather happens, I herd all of my pets into our safe room, I don't wait till the last minute.

Sunday's storms were pretty intense. Tornadoes to the south and to the north of us, but it was eerily sunny and dead calm the entire time. Yet we could see the nasty shiat from our porch.

Well... I hope all they gave the dog at first was water. If it required any surgery, food might be a hinderance.

/Although, at 11 it's in overtime.

Geez...just grab the whole kennel and take it into the safe room with you! (do I have to think of everything?

/super awesome story

Sadly some animals weren't as lucky. A friend's sister-in-law lost her two cats to the EF3 outside Champaign.

Oh, come on dude, seriously?  Are we going to start acting like "pet" is a derogatory term now?

pet
noun
1.any domesticated or tamed animal that is kept as a companion and  cared for affectionately.
2.a person especially cherished or indulged; favorite:He was the  teacher's pet.
3.a thing particularly cherished.

Sounds like a damned fond and loving term to me.

It has shades of "slave" in it.

Animals belong to Nature, to live in the wild.

That they choose to live with us humans temporarily is something we need to recognize as a brief and special convergence of our lives.

Thus they are 'companions' and not "pets".
