Would have made the best controller out there, even better.

Then again, smelling a wet Sabrewulf may not have gone over quite well.

abhorrent1: Xbone blows. Get a PS4

Hey!  Thanks for your contribution.

Back on topic.  I've always liked Dan Hsu, His interview of Peter Moore was on point back at the 360 launch, and he always seems to call it like he sees it.  I'm looking forward to the rest of this feature on the Xbone's controller.

In the very limited time I had with it, I really liked the new controller.  Mainly the fact that the battery compartment is out of the way, I can now curl my fingers around the bottom was a big plus for me.  No longer tucking them along the sides of the compartment.

The individual trigger rumbles were a nice touch with Forza during some areas where I was drifting off the edge of the track.  The D-Pad was a huge improvement.  Pulling off some combos during my time with KI was far easier for a casual gamer like myself who won't buy the arcade stick.

The one issue I had were the bumpers.  It seemed like I had to hit them a little more firm than what I was used to, but it wasn't really that big of a deal.

It's a nice controller overall.  I'm glad they just refined it, and didn't mess with a good thing.

/4 more days until I get boned by the xbone!
//KI and BF4 will be mine
///maybe Forza too

I love the 360 controller, and it looks like the One's shape is almost identical.

I bought the PS4 this time around, and I have a couple dislikes: I prefer the sticks not to be parallel so I stop hitting the tips of my thumbs together when they slide off the top a bit, and the PS4's controller cramps my hands up after a lengthy gaming session, where the 360 controller was always comfortable as both hands are in a relaxed position instead of both thumbs being constantly bent towards the centre of the controller. Also, moving outward from the stick to hit a d-pad button feels more awkward than moving inward.

The touchpad is a good idea, but I have yet to run into anything that uses it, including the browser. A browser without touchpad support is ridiculous.

As far as the new controller goes, is it any larger/roomier?  I mean, I like the 360 controller and I use with my PC, but was I the only one with big enough hands for the original xbox controller?

It's not as big as the duke that's for sure.

It seemed roomier. Like it was easier for my hands and fingers to grasp it a bit better. I have long hands with long fingers and I always felt the 360 one cramped me a bit. Not as much as the ds3 mind you, but that battery compartment always irked me.

Here at least the compartment is now part of the controller so the bottom is more roomier for your other four fingers.

The triggers and especially the shoulder buttons seem bigger and longer which felt good to the touch as well.

It's a refinement more than anything. If you like the 360 one you will love the xbone one.

Cool!  The only things I don't like about the 360 controller is, like you, the battery compartment, and that I have to shift my hands back a bit if I want to press the bumpers properly. Maybe having that extra room in the back will help with that.

Haha. Nice. Yeah long fingers do have their benefits.

You'll like the new xbone controller then since your issues with the bumpers are the same I had. And yes. Thank god they got rid of that battery compartment.

I simply cannot use a ds3 since my hands constantly cramped. The ds4 looks like it made zero improvements with the sticks remaining too close together.

I agree. I loved my Playstations, but the controllers have always been an issue for me. For example: Enslaved.  I had a difficult time with that game on PS3, but playing it again recently on the PC with a 360 controller was a world of difference.  Same with KoF 13.

I never claimed Microsoft was smart these days. Take the Windows 8 "Modern" Ui for example... or even better, what they've done to VisualStudio in VS 2012 and VS 2013. Something is really wrong with the water in Redmond these days.

I have average sized fingers, very large palms.  I can't play any Xbox for more than a few minutes without feeling pain in my hands.

That's why I have to hold my controller like this.

Jet Set Radio is brilliant on the PC with a 360 controller, pretty much everything is better with that mold... even the Wii U's (non-screen) pro controller feels really good to hold and that controller is basically a 360 controller with a different stick placement (and no triggers)

i'm actually really looking forward to the steam controller's touchpad circles not just for the solution to the thumbstick's dead zone but also because thumbsticks make my thumbs hurt after awhile, if i'm playing a shooter the joints literally start hurting

Um, just an FYI - the xbox (original) JSRF has been back-compatible on the 360 for like 6 years. Including both the original (which I sold on ebay a few months back for like $50) and the one bundled with some sega racing game.

I dunno, maybe it's the cold meds talking, but I just got excited about the potential behind the idea. Easier for indies to get exposure, hopefully wring a little more performance out of existing hardware, etc...

The whole thing could fizzle out into a giant wet fart, but I'd still like to see what they can do with it.

I am curious, how so? There is nothing new coming with the Steambox that does not already exist on today's Linux PCs except for a Steam logo on the side of the box. One would think that a Windows machine would be able to play many more indie titles than a Linux box would.

I have about as much confidence in "This is the Year of the Linux Gaming Machine" as I have for "The is the Year of the Linux Desktop" for the last decade.

I'll just be that guy and say I hate how the Xbox sticks are offset. I use 2 360 controllers with the HTPC for emulation and modern PC games and I really dislike the unbalanced feeling my hands have after 10 years with a Dualshock. I have large hands and I loved the original Xbox 1 (uh...) mega controller, but I've never had a problem with thumbs touching tips when I rotate both analogs inward on a DS controller, and I prefer the Dpad off to the left instead of down to the right.

Also really hate the 360's mushy d-pad but it's better than the original Xbox and the dreamcast at least.

I prefer the 360's trigger analogs though, glad Sony took a hint for the DS4 with those. As someone likely to end up with both, wouldn't really mind both companies' controllers gradually becoming near-identical. Just rig up a modular controller so I can put the analog sticks in a line instead of offset, please.

/spend most of my time with a fightstick anyway

They spent $100M for a controller that is almost identical to the previous generation controller, but with different textures for the thumbsticks?
