I almost died in a motor vehicle accident. I was getting up like a 60 year old when I was 33.

I got knocked down, but I got up again.

Not "If you get up off floor fast you'll get healthy.

If you can't get up at all, then the prediction becomes very accurate.

Last year it was, "If you walk fast you will live longer." Not "walk fast if you want to live longer."

Next year they'll probably back to writing about wrinkly old person sex again.

What about your ability to walk the dinosaur?

Sounds like something that needs some decent explaining. How you sit down and get up is often dictated by habit or level of ease and the environment. Someone who puts down a hand and a knee to go and sit on a hard floor might as well do that because (s)he didn't like the risk of slipping and cracking his/her skull.

James Brown, although older than Blacula, can get up off the floor faster than a cat on catnip.

You didn't read the article. Doctors had people get on the floor and then get up in a specific manner.

This study has been done before with METs.  The higher your peak MET ratio, the longer you'll probably live, at least in the short term.

Oh, I don't know, they've got good shipping and excellent viability statistics. You can even get some decent heirloom varieties from them.

Science isn't about telling me that basic fitness is part of a healthy lifestyle.

Science is about making drugs that make me healthy, regardless of my sloth and gluttony.

Get with the program!

The best part about group fitness classes is when the instructor asks for some participation in picking the next activity and I get to be the asshole who says burpees. It makes my day every time.

I'm that guy too. I don't get why everyone hates burpees. They're not that bad but I'm the guy who gets annoyed when we do bear crawls, especially on a hill, so I guess everybody has something they don't like.

I would say it's more the determination to get off the floor than how well you do it. If you refuse to stay down, you never fail.

Burpees and planks are great exercises, and burpees especially can be modified into all sorts of interesting things. I like doing a burpee-deadlift-military.

You can do a "CrossFit-like" program without doing the "CrossFit is completely insane" program. The basic idea behind cross-fit is sound. The problem is that you have these idiots who believe that if you can still stand after your workout, you haven't worked out hard enough. High-intensity, short-interval workouts with full-body movements is a  great way to exercise. I'd rather spend 15 minutes doing burpees than 45 minutes on an elliptical.

//For some reason I could watch them all day.

I walk 2 1/2 miles three times a week to church to garden for an hour. When you don't have a car, you don't need to pay for your exercise. :)

/you're training different things. 45 minutes on an elliptical will get you endurance and stamina. Interval-training will get you bulk and muscles. Personally, I like setting a pace and zoning out while the calories burn.
//I do yoga on the off days

Peki: Interval-training will get you bulk and muscles.

Depends on the exercises you do during the intervals. If you're doing cardio in the intervals, or at least mixing cardio in for some intervals, you're still building up endurance. I walk two miles a day, but I don't consider walking exercise.

METs are much more useful.

METs are a measure of how well your lungs, and heart, and muscles are working.

Take a look at Figure-4 here.

Burpee-deadlift-military? You mean a clean and press? More proof that Crossfitters are totally clueless.
