Peter von Nostrand: AK-74? Oh wow, the gun tards are gonna freak

The AK-74 is like an AK-47 except its chambered in 5.45x39mm instead of 7.62x39mm.  It's an actual weapon.

There's nothing wrong with carrying guns.  That's how things were done when this country was becoming the greatest in the world and we turned out fine.  Just look at the movies brought to us by two of America's greatest heroes, John Wayne and Clint Eastwood.  Everyone is carrying a gun and you could shoot folks for looking at you wrong.  This country was like that for a hundred years and we managed to not only survive, but thrive!  Now some asshole cuts you off in traffic and all you can do is write down his license number, or some poor goes digging through your trashcan for bottles and the police say they can't do a thing about it.  If open carry were the law, though, those people would have to dig through trash somewhere else.

What amazes me the most about these idiots is that they're so afraid of their own shadows that they absolutely need to have a weapon on them everywhere they go, no matter how mundane, the world is absolutely wrought with dangers and other people are their greatest enemies, yet they continue to pop out kids...

Let's see, abjectly stupid statement (particularly since in many places carrying knives like that CAN get you in trouble), and an account that is a few days old. Welp.

Yes, we wish the folks described in TFA would man-up and stop living in fear as well.

This!

I saw and idiot the other day carrying a weapon out in public and asked what he was over compensating for. He looked at me pretty stunned so I guess it was lack of confidence.

There is no need for this and it should be banned in every business, everywhere. Caught with a gun, legal or not, outside your home, immediate loss of you license. Unlicensed, well I say let the pot smokers out, and the gun nuts in.

These are the same sort of "patriots" who paraded around in their Hummers in the years between 2001-2008, showing it off to as many people as they can to show how patriot-y they really are by guzzling up as much gas as they could. Right?

Tim Houston, a gun rights blogger in Eugene, Oregon, says though the extreme open carriers-people in fatigues who stroll through city centers with semi-automatic weapons-might frighten people at first, their efforts are no different from the nonviolent resistance employed by Dr. Martin Luther King in the fight for civil rights a half decade ago.

Well, that's one way to ensure that you're never taken seriously.

Cool story time: One of my co-workers was an "open-carry advocate" of the gun furry variety. He once posted a gigantic diatribe on one of our internal email lists about how gun rights are under siege because he was "accosted by police". The actual story? Someone called the cops when he was blundering around downtown Seattle with a .45 on his belt, and the SPD - the notoriously farked-up, violent, given to throwing taser and pepper spray parties over anything SPD - officers spoke with him, explained the situation and told him that while they were required to check it out, he was perfectly within his rights, they were closing the complaint and they would speak to the person who called it in.

OPPRESSION.

As a (multiple) gun owner, as a guy who has a CCW permit, and lives in a state that allows open carry...I am shocked by the bad behavior of these looney Open Carriers.

I am all for open carry laws staying on the books, that being said I find it to be HIGHLY irresponsible, and attention whorish when carrying your AR-15 to Costco and the dog park.

That behavior is intimidating, bullish, and not good for "the cause"...if there is such a thing...

Wayyyy toooo Mall Ninja-ish to me.

I've been shooting a long time, and I have a lot of otherwise normal friends who are rabid 2nd Amendment supporters.  I'll say the same thing here that I say to them whenever I refuse to go somewhere with them when they open carry, or if I can't avoid going, demand they leave their gun at home.  Their arguments are variations on the same two things: "It's legal!!  It's my right!!"  And my response is always, "It's also your legal right, to walk into a biker bar wearing nothing but high heels, a sundress, and a rainbow wig.  That doesn't mean it's a good idea."

They're also speechless because I refuse to keep a loaded gun anywhere under my roof.  Why?  Because I have a 6 year old son who could get his Holloween candy out of a steamer trunk locked underwater by Houdini, himself.  And because I'm not inclined to get into a life and death struggle in the middle of the night over what are, essentially, used office appliances and my wife's shiny rock collection.  The fine folks down at AllState will cut me a nice check and my wife can spend a week shopping for new, shiny rocks while I trot on down to Best Buy, and my "honor" will remain intact, as far as I'm concerned.

Oh, hey. Another issue in which I understand neither side.

People who open carry to make a point: it's not illegal, so knock yourself out. I just don't understand what point you're really trying to make. It's equally legal for you to wear a pink tutu to the store, I just don't understand why you would choose to do so. No skin off my nose, I guess. Whatever.

People who freak out about people who open-carry: are you really so threatened every time you see a weapon? Do police frighten you? I just don't understand why you're so scared. No skin off my nose, I guess. Whatever.

Here's my sweet piece.  I tell you, after a hard day of curing the disease called crime and roughing up latino street punks, I like to relax in front of the TV, get my gun cleaning kit out of the fridge and cut a slice of pizza in half with scissors for some reason.  That's living to me.

Nope it is just stupid for the sake of being stupid. With stupid usually come irresponsibility. With irresponsibility someone becomes dead.

The point they're trying to make is that they want everyone in their vicinity to know they could kill them if they wanted to.

I for one support this kind of second amendment outreach. It's sure to do nothing but broaden support for gun rights.

If it's all about peacefully exercising your rights, then this is where good old-fashioned American ridicule and jeering comes in. You see some retard open-carrying in your grocery store? Ask him how small his dick is. Laugh at him. Give him the pinky finger. Lean over to a fellow shopper, laugh, and point him out.

Show the moron exactly how ridiculous he looks to others. Because he's getting off on knowing he scares you a little. If it dawns on him that he's making a fool of himself in his own town he'll stop.

You gun-grabbing libtardos have no idea how frightening it can be to patrol your neighborhood with your weapon concealed. Without open carry, criminally-inclined punks might have the nerve to confront you, escalating the situation and leading to tragedy.

Same people who proudly claim how they are too infromed to ever fall for scams and snake oil salesmen and immediately believe fwdfwdfwd emails about how Obama is personally choking grandma with his death panel of death.

The same group who suffer from lack of money but demand that the rich need a tax break.

The same group who wrap themselves in flags to avoid any criticisms while ignoring the principles of the country.

The same group who demand government should stay out of services while they themselves depend on those government services.

The same group who slap several magentic ribbons on their cars to support the troops while blindly supporting an unnecessary war.

The same group who protest mosques while crying that they are beinh oppressed with a war on Christmas.

The same group that scream over states getting federal funding after disasters and then cry that they need help after they cut services and ended up with a avoidable disaster.

The same group that claims to honor veterans whole mocking the service of one and cutting services and support for others.

The same group who cry that gay marriage is ruining the sanctity of marriage while they are on their third divorce.

The same group who claim to be fiscally responsible while supporting the group who wanted to default and ruin the global economy.

The same group who said they supported job creators who not only did not push one job bill but also lead a shutdown that cost people their jobs.

The same group who are always on the wrong side of history, wrong side of governing for a better country, wrong side politically, spiritually, economically, physically, logically, emotionally and rationally to progress society to a brighter future.

The same damn group every time.

Maybe they are using them without killing people.  You know, responsibly.  Google the studies on defensive gun use.  Every number between 150,000 to 1,000,000 defensive gun uses per year.  The definition of defensive gun use varies study to study.  Some only include actually firing the gun.  Others include saying "I have a gun and will use it" as defensive gun use.  But even at the low end, there are more defensive gun uses per year than deaths by guns.

Link to google search.  Wiki article at the top has reference to a lot of studies.

Why i'm not a big fan of these open carry attention whores....

You libs make it seem like the USA is so plagued by gun violence committed by criminals that we need to ban certain types of weapons & standard capacity magazines.  If that's the case, can you really blame these guys?

Or, are you finally admitting that isn't true?
