(Bleacher Report)   Kid pulls a Wilt Chamberlain by scoring more than 100 points for the second time in his college career. Unfortunately, Grinnell only has about a thousand girls, so it's going to be a while before he REALLY pulls a Chamberlain   (bleacherreport.com) divider line 27

24-48 behind the 3-pt line is pretty impressive.

/ He could probably avg about 8 to 10 pts pe game in D I... probably about 20 to 25 on a normal D III team that had a normal offense.

I hear his scoring secrets are 1. always go for two, 2. never punt and 3. always kick onside.

The Grinnell System is strange and would only really work in D3 ball.

Lulz. Yeah, it definitely would have been better to go with an Achievement Unlocked theme for the headline.

I love it.  I think defense in basketball is amazingly boring, like sub-soccer level boring.  Every game should be like this.  Grinnell vs. old school Loyola Marymount.

70 FG attempts in a 40-minute game? Does he have teammates?

I dunno. There is something to be said for a game like Ohio State-Marquette where the score was tied at 19 heading into the half. Of course, some of that has to do with the new ticky tack fouls that are called damn near every time down the court.

Of course, as an Ohio State fan, I loves me some Aaron Craft and defense is his thing. Best on ball defender in college right now and probably the best in a while.

Wilt was lying about the 10,000 women thing just to sell his book. At least according to his friends

The Grinnell System identifies a shooter before each game and the object of the offense is to get that person the ball ALL. THE. TIME. His teammates don't complain because they elected him to be the shooter before the game.

i love the grinnell system mainly because opposing coaches hate that they have to completely change up their practice and defense just to play one school in their conference.

that and the fact that grinnell is an incredibly nerdy and intellectual school, so it follows that they have a completely nerdy and intellectual take on the game.

This isn't an intellectual take on the game. It's what every 10 year old does when paying video games.

I haven't looked into the Grinnel System, but Is there not a defensive system known as "double or triple cover the f*cking guy who takes all the shots and make him pay for taking the ball to the basket?"

i believe that the entire team is trained to shoot 3-pointers, so i'm sure they'd just pass it to the next guy.

I would imagine if you start triple covering the shooter it would be pretty trivial for Grinnell to get layups from the other 4 dudes being covered by 2 defenders. And from my understanding there isn't much 'taking the ball to the basket', the kid shot 48 threes in the game.

I had a buddy who went to Grinnell and played football there, it made me sometimes wish I had gone to a school like that since I could've walked on the football team and there's some silliness involved in that too, would be a blast to play college ball at a small school if you aren't super great. I went to a state school where even the shiatty football players (most of them) tower over the rest of the kids on campus.

As I understand it they run a full-court press designed to keep the designated scorer loitering around the basket as much as possible, so they score a silly percentage of points in transition while playing half-court defense short-handed -- the half-court defense is so half-assed they'll even let the other team score if it'll get the ball back.  So they'll score over 100 points, but they allow over 100 points as well.  In this game they allowed 123.  It's not a strategy designed to win so much as make headlines and maybe have a little fun considering this is a program going nowhere with players going nowhere, and I'm sure their opponents know it.

DEFENSE MOTHERFARKERS, DO YOU PLAY IT?

Like hell, in the one one-on-one play shown, the defender was giving Taylor a five foot cushion.

Opposing coaches don't have to do none of that. It is a playground system designed to beat crappy teams without any ball handlers and can't play any perimeter defense.. There is nothing nerdy and intellectual about it.

Didn't they pull this same shiat last year? They basically schedule a game against a JV high school team and allow one of their players to put up huge numbers.

I used to kick ass at NBA Live 95 by being Phoenix and taking 3s with Dan Majerle every time.

All things considered, they don't win all that much either. They'll put up records like 17-6, but even if they get into the tournament, they usually fall pretty quickly. All their records are set against really shiatty opponents. D3 powerhouses like Amherst, Hope, Calvin, etc. don't play gimmicks and win consistently.
