Ha! I did not expect the greenlight.  Thanks very much guys! :D  I just wanted to share with your Farkers that I made this here Slave Leia Barbie, and thought you would get a kick out of it.  That my auction will get all the extra eyeballs is icing on my nerd cake tonight! \o/

I learned a lot from making this doll and could make the next one SOOO much better quality.  But I'm still pretty proud of this one.  I hope she finds a new nerd home, and is loved as much as I loved making her!

/yes I know the hair is not correct with the lore.  I tried like hell to get the single side braid going, but her hair was not long enough, and it just sorta jutted straight out the back of her head about an inch. This is an inspired doll, not a replica.

Interesting but not all that well done, but an A for effort.

I felt weird, and like I may be sued by Disney or Lucas if I claimed it was new.  And I chose not to introduce her to my sons resident action figures.

I can confirm that I did not, at any time, stick any part of this Barbie up my arse.  But they would probably pay more for that in Japan.

Yeah... I'm going to support your effort to make a profit from someone else's intellectual property. Good luck, Timbaland.

$11 for your Etsy-grade Barbie doll won't impress anyone here enough to start your alleged bidding war, subby.

If only there were some way to have postal delivery to an alternate address. Perhaps some sort of postal box.

I'll put a Ken doll in the waffle iron and sell it as Han in Carbonite!

Someone here is blowing a mod, methinks.

2013-11-18 01:39:25 AM
For an extreme beginner in making custom/modded dolls, this isn't that bad for a start. I think that you could have put a lot more effort into it as a whole. The costume is nice enough, but it looks like there is some visible glue in a few places. The hair is also a hot mess when you really get down to it and it probably would have benefited you more to get an alternate doll's head- you can order those off the internet pretty easily. Installing hair is also an option, but sometimes it's easier to just get a different head. The buns could probably have been slicked down with some glue or hairspray- there are a few "how to" guides out there that go into this.

Now I would have been less harsh, except that you made the choice to  sell this, which I think was probably a premature choice. There are a lot better options out there for doll mods and I would have personally recommended that you kept this, learned from it, and used the doll as a base for future mod/custom experiments. Selling something that is pretty shoddy by most modding standards is sort of a little tacky. You did put the effort into the costume, but not really into the doll as a whole. I know, I know... you did work hard on some parts of it and while this isn't bad for a beginning mod, it's still a bit like a new chef trying to sell a partially burned cake with a little bit too much salt in it. Again, I'd be less harsh except that you're trying to make money off of this. If you want to make any sort of money off your designs, you need to learn how to work a lot harder than this and put out a far more polished product that looks like you put more work into it. It doesn't matter that you spent weeks on the costume- the person buying the product shouldn't have to feel like they should put up with an inferior mod just because you worked so hard on it. I'm trying not to be too harsh, as I don't think you meant any ill will, but you've got to understand that there are some extremely well made mods out there and part of the whole thing about selling mods is that you're supposed to be selling a more detailed and accurate version than you can get through the official Barbie store.

/don't mod myself, but I've spoken to people who do and frequent some of the modding pages

Another good option is to ask other modders what they did on their dolls and try to copy it. Here's an excellent slave Leia doll:

I want to repeat that I'm not trying to be nasty by saying all of this, just that when you try to sell something you made, you open yourself up to a lot of criticism- especially since there's already a relatively good amount of other mods out there.

Most eBay sellers won't ship to a PO box. Ruins the seller protection.
