This kind of thing is worse, in a long-term sense, for the Philippines than what the American government is doing. Canada is essentially causing a massive money and resource drain in the Philippines by opening its doors for "refugees". America is putting money and resources into the economy to build the infrastructure back up.

The Phillipinos already in Canada send $2 billion a year back home.

There's nothing more awesome than having a Filipino girl's dad threaten to chop your white boy dick off if you come within 100 yards of his precious princess.

I actually had a real estate person talk me out of renting in a Filipino neighborhood because two of my dogs were black and she said they would definitely disappear.
I fell in love with Filipino food when I lived in Hawaii. I make bibingka better than your Pinoy grandma.

Australia can give anybody a run for their money when it comes to Asian. Except Szechuan. Nobody can touch the food in Szechuan.

Filipinos have been the Philippines main export for a century.  US Navy supply and support is overwhelmingly so, as are the merchant mariners on every vessel from Phuket to Reykjavik, as are plenty of the 'domestic workers' in the middle east or Singapore.   10,000 more to Canada would be a fairly minor outflow.

I won't eat at a Filipino restaurant unless the waitress can deliver each entree for a table of four by squatting over the plates.

I am known in the local Filipino place as the man who loves the soup as I abuse the refills because I love it so much.  This and my local Thai place have soups I cannot recreate no matter how hard I have tried.

There was a news report from the typhoon, showing a dude pouring water over his dog with a caption something along the lines of a "man bathing his pet."

My Weeners was nope, dog soup.

India and Canada were both part of the British empire. Lots of tea drinking going on. Lots of ex-Indian army Sikhs to be imposing security guards at banks so some dirty white junkie doesn't rob them.

People come to Canada, they start wearing hoodies, going to Tim Hortons, ordering too much pizza, playing hockey. It always happens.

They owned airport security in the states pre- 9/11 , too.
Oops, did I say that out loud?

"Sweet steamed-rice-cake stuff" could be puto or palitaw. Puto has a more airy texture and is a typical accompaniment to dinuguan. Palitaw is more like a dumpling. Both are tasty. My personal favorites are champorado, bicol express and tortang talong. Kaldereta is another good one. I'm not overly fond of fish sinigang or pinakbet, but pinakbet is doable if there's not too much bitter melon in it. I can't bring myself to try dinuguan either.

There's a huge Philippino community here including four Philippino restaurants, 5 grocery stores and seven or eight thousand Lolas (grammas) willing to cook for you if you ask.

I live in Winnipeg in an area dominated by Filipinos.  All I can say is most own houses, I never heard of a Filipino unemployed and they care about the appearance of the neighbourhood.  As the Germans and Ukrainians move out, in all cases, it has been a positive change.

Those are some stylish turbans.

I used to find the Sikh look a little threatening, especially when I was a kid growing up in an area of Surrey called "Newton". Most of my white neighbors moved on over time and the neighborhood slowly became mostly Indo-Canadian.

These days it doesn't bother me. Though the community has some weird habits, like attempting to haggle at stores here (I witnessed a kid trying to get a deal on buying one pen at Staples - it was a 50 cent pen, just f'ng pay the cashier so i can buy my goods!), I've never met a person with a turban who wasn't super nice nice to me. Never.
