What's so ominous about a drone crashing into the SS Sarah Connor?

2013-11-17 12:28:58 PM
The drone was trying to land, the auto-homing device had been activated. To prevent that you need to turn off the setting marked "I'll be back".

/sorry

According to the ghost of Tom Clancy, it's no malfunction. It's hackers working for the Chinese gummint.

"It isn't the comet. It's a broom. Imagine you're a race of aliens, right? And, you're looking for a new place to live. Say you're looking for a planet like you and I looking for a new place to live. A new house. So here's Earth. Only it's like this big old house. And, it's kind of polluted, dirty, and smoky. Grease on the walls, soot in the chimney. So, they send in their interstellar housecleaners. Send in their broom. Sweep us all up. That's what this it is, it's a broom. Using our own machines to sweep us right off."

That was bound to happen when they designated the drone T-1000 and set it to automatic pilot.

Yeah it would have been a lot better if it had been a manned helicoptor and 8 people died, right?

Consulting Google for the BQM-74 specs reveals a stated top speed of 600 MPH and a gross weight of 550 lbs, so depending how fast it was going and how much fuel it had remaining when it crashed, it could definitely do some damage.

Northern aggression drone. Nothing to see here.

2013-11-17 03:00:08 PM
We're merely in the way of the drones' power supply.

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

No, but Skynet wouldn't have been involved.

People are drone-crazed the same way they were Mayan-apocalypse-crazed, Rapture-crazed, and Black-UN-helicopters-crazed.

Same shiat, different fixation.

Operator fail.  He should have put pressed Y to put the drone into slew mode and just added a few thousand feet to its elevation using F4.

I imagine the port lookout had to change pants... I'd rather not be topside. If it penetrated the ship then there would have been a serious fire with many more hurt... Fires on board a ship are not something to mess around with.

It would also do no good to shoot it down since the pieces will still strike the ship and do the same damage. I expect the CIWS were secured.

CIWS is always secured.   It has no IFF and is a last ditch effort to stop missiles.  If it comes on, it kills everything it sees.
