Too damned many.

I get what the guy is getting at. He's being beset by a pack of weasels looking to eat his flesh. driving up controversy drives up the prices paps can get for their scores, and if a score gets bigger attention, then the weasels go in for the kill.

And I don't really see it as the public being celebrity obsessed. it's more that the media is obsessed with itself. and with a far too many media outlets, but not enough media to fill it all up, shiat gets made up, dragged out, manufactured, and hyped out of control. and, because he let his anger get the best of him, the weasels are closing in for the kill. of course the pap provoke him, and anyone else from stars to middling celebrities.

it happens over and over and over again.

I know, I know.. welcome to the entertainment tab

On one hand, the paparazzi are scumbags but on the other hand, that's the price of being a celebrity who gets paid entirely way too much for what they actually do. And for a lot of these celebrities who are crying about how they are hounded by the paparazzi, if suddenly everyone ignored them, they'd jump out of a window.

Don't know who either of these individuals are but I absolutely am very pro-gay rights.  Alec Baldwin is a homophobic asshole and it's odd that you appear to be giving him a pass on being a homophobic asshole.

I am sure he hates getting paid tons of money for public appearances and to act. If the public didn't have that obsession, he would be waiting tables and sucking dick for crack money behind a NYC taco joint

It's not hard to imagine.  Baldwin is vocal liberal, so gets a pass.  Everytime he does something stupid, he gets a pass.  Gibson spewed equally vile remarks and his career has more or less ended.  He at least had the (poor) excuse that he was drunk at the time.

Imagine if someone like Jon Voight or Tom Selleck or Gary Sinese were to go on a late night TV show and scream that we should drag a ranking Democratic member of congress out into the streets along with their families and stone them to death.  Imagine the damage to their career, even if they tried to claim it was a joke.  Baldwin did that 20 years ago and few people even remember.

Yeah, because this is the first time this has happened.  I don't see that he's lost his endorsements, the "show" he's been suspended from is a once a week talk show on MSNBC.  His consequences have paled in comparison to what happened to others who may have been equally vile but didn't get second chances going back 20+ years.

Nope. If he wasn't good at his job he wouldn't get away with asshole behavior. It's the same with athletes.

Baldwin also gets personal though, writing that he is "concerned for my family," adding that paparazzi can "make life miserable for my neighbors" and there's nothing that authorities can do about it. Photographers "provoke me, daily, by getting dangerously close to me with their cameras as weapons, hoping I will react," writes Baldwin.

I'll grant you that there are some aspects of being a celebrity that suck in ways we can't understand. It's not whining when you can't take a dump without some asshole trying to get a picture...

That said, 2 things:

1. YOU chose to make your life a public thing to some extent by not only becoming an actor, but making yourself a very public actor, doing movies, TV shows and commercials left and right, as well as making your opinions on hot button topics like politics very much in the open. Of course people are going to notice when you're a prick. Do you think that you only get the sunny side all of the time?

2. "The paparazzi are mean to me" is NOT an excuse to be a complete and total bigot.

I don't know what's in Baldwin's heart but he's apparently a moran when it comes to self awareness. He doesn't seem to understand that you cannot be given a daily TV show and then continually engage in nutjob behavior in clear view of omnipresent recording devices. Derrrrrr....

2013-11-16 09:00:24 PM
Alec Baldwin is one of two celebrities that have me conflicted. I really enjoy their work, but their horrible behavior really overshadows their artistic achievements. Justin Beiber also falls into that category.

2013-11-16 09:02:40 PM
If I had people taking my picture every time I stepped out of my house and following me everywhere I go I'd be calling them much worse than that.

2013-11-16 09:03:19 PM
He would have had a point if he wasn't someone who has intentionally inserted himself into the nation's discourse through his many, many attempts to influence public policy. If he was like Harrison Ford and kept mostly to himself, it would be different.

OK, I think the guy is great because I hate queers*. Does that make you happy?

Try looking at my posts in threads about WBC, about the recent Matthew Shepherd controversy, about Florida's law about same sex couples adopting. You don't want facts, you just don't like some of my opinions.

I don't claim to be a champion of LGBT causes and then malign LGBT people with viscous insults. In fact I don't use terms like that at all. Baldwin does just that and yet you'll happily paint me as unfriendly to gay people because my political opinions are different. I think you're short-sighted and shallow.

/*I don't but you seem to think I would like or hate someone based on who they decide to love.

If nobody obsessed over their private lives their paycheques would be a lot smaller. If they're unhappy with their lot in life maybe they should do local theatre or take up organic farming instead.

Fred Allen (probably 1940s or so):  "A celebrity is someone who works hard all his life to become well known, then wears dark glasses to avoid being recognized."

I'm just tired of Alec Baldwin, and think him very, very overexposed (even doing the NY Philharmonic broadcasts, for God's sake).

I don't understand how their love life would be at all germane to their insurance, and I must assume your talking about health insurance not P&C or life or professional liability or anything like that.

Perhaps you would care to explain how it would?

Gibson doesn't have a fraction of the career he did before his incident.  It seems unlikely he'll make a comeback for a while.

Dean isn't coming back from what happened to her.

Card is guilty of being against gay marriage and being vocal about it, so he must be punished.  Current movie based on his book was well into production before this became widely known.  Remains to be seen what'll happen to his career, but there were active attempts to advocate a boycott of the movie based on his book.

Nevertheless, he's hardly an outcast.  He continues to make movies.  Maybe  part of the reason his career isn't what it used to be is beause those movies suck?

Dean isn't coming back from what happened to her.

You can see into the future?  Neat!

Card is guilty of being against gay marriage and being vocal about it, so he must be punished.

Card is also guilty of this: In a 1990 essay for Sunstone magazine, he wrote that the laws prohibiting homosexual behavior should "remain on the books, not to be indiscriminately enforced against anyone who happens to be caught violating them, but to be used when necessary to send a clear message that those who flagrantly violate society's regulation of sexual behavior cannot be permitted to remain as acceptable, equal citizens within that society." ~wiki

Sounds pretty fkn fascist to me (and he said a lot more similar shiat). He did recently say he no longer believes this...a few months before his movie came out. His sincerity is doubtful. F*ck that guy.

But, yeah, Real Americans are oppressed and libtardos get away with everything.

*yawn*

No, I'm pretty sure there's at least one photographer on every street corner in Los Angeles, just in case someone famous trots by.
