TFA totally fails to describe the evidence presented at trial that proves that none of the girls involved ever actually thought that the guy was 'creepy' or a 'perv', instead relying on a description of one of the girls' immaturity to demonize them.

truly, justice has been served.

The demeanor of the "ringleader," now 14, appeared to have alienated the jury. She giggled often while testifying, and twice got off the witness stand, stood in front of the jury box and demonstrated a dance move and chant a school cheer. The jurors sat grim-faced without smiling.

If you're a man and volunteer to teach children, you either have to be insane, or a pedophile.

Those are the only two reasons I can think of that a man would risk his life and freedom to be around children.

I mean, really... we've all seen by now that one word from a kid, and a man's life is over. Sure, there may be a retraction, or a court case, but the news of that will be buried on page 20, while the front page headline calling them a pedophile will be all that most people remember.

So, why risk it? Is it worth your life or freedom to teach a bunch of ungrateful brats that you have to fear every moment, or deal with their dumbass parents? I can't see how it would be. So, Insanity or lusting after teh children. That's all I can think of.

Reminds me of a couple cases from my area. The accusers didn't seem credible from early on. One prosecutor dropped charges after she changed her story for the third time. In the other the prosecutor felt obliged to keep trying. Better to put an innocent mail in prison than be braded soft on rape. The second defendant was a teacher. By law he was entitled to be rehired after acquittal. The school paid him to go away.

One difference is, the girls went to police instead of running a PR campaign. Complaints to police are privileged. Complaints to the press are libel.

Good.

While it's important that kids be believed when they claim to be molested, it's also important to realize that even sweet innocent eleven-year old girls are quite capable of malicious behavior and understand that calling someone a pervert will get them arrested.

Jurors had to weigh the evidence against each of the seven defendants -- three girls and their four parents. They found the former teacher was only 10 percent responsible for the harm he endured.

They came down hardest on the "ringleader" student and the mother of the other two girls.

The demeanor of the "ringleader," now 14, appeared to have alienated the jury. She giggled often while testifying, and twice got off the witness stand, stood in front of the jury box and demonstrated a dance move and chant a school cheer. The jurors sat grim-faced without smiling.

The most nauseating aspect of this for me is what the parents and rest of that kid's family must be like. Unless she's straight up diagnosably sociopathic, that girl has been the subject of some terrifying social conditioning to think her behavior was no big deal.

The verdict shocked the families and their attorneys, who were confident that the jury would heed their warning that a decision against them for complaining that the teacher made their children uncomfortable would have a chilling effect on the reporting of school abuse.

"Oh, so we just almost destroyed an innocent man's life, but we should be completely immune to this because if you find us liable then someone else might not report abuse."  (And for some reason lawyers totally expect this to work.)

False accusations like this are twice as damaging, since they also contribute to true victims not being believed even if they do come forward.

I am a criminal defense attorney.  I have seen a lot of cases involving false accusations of inappropriate contact.  Many of these are a result of a parent pushing a kid to make accusations in child custody cases, but others seem to little or no explanation.   It doesn't matter if new evidence surfaces or a child retracts their statements, once you have been accused your representation is destroyed.  There is no coming back from that.

I refuse to be alone with any children that are not related to me.  Not even for ten minutes.   Maybe I am paranoid, but I would rather be safe than sorry.

I asked a close friend of mine who teaches high school how he can work in an environment where a single accusation from a student of his *will* destroy his life, he replied he has to treat them differently than his male students and NEVER allow a female student to be in his classroom with him unless there is someone else present as well.

sad really, the extent one has to go to remain clear from suspicion.

I don't think it's sad at all, given the history of these crimes.  It's more like due diligence, and I'm 100% ok with the supervisors of children being supervised.
