I'm confident this will be the first collection of funny conservatives in history.

2013-11-16 11:15:07 AM
Oh good, conservative comedy.  This should go over well.

2013-11-16 11:17:07 AM
And what is the deal with Mexicans?  There's dirt on their side of the fence and dirt on our side of the fence.  Why do they want our dirt?  Hello, is this thing on?  I haven't seen this many dead people in a room since ACORN's last voter registration drive.

Good luck with that. I'm sure it'll be a huge success.

What? Oh I see. The headline is supposed to be funny because Subby doesn't like Glenn Beck. Cutting edge, that.

Humor has to go where it takes you. Liberals can laugh at themselves, The Daily Show often picks on liberals.

They could hire the people who write Prickly City and Mallard Fillmore.  It'll be at least as funny as those!

TDS has been pretty rough on CNN of late and isn't CNN supposed to be part of the liberal commie lamestream media?

Not only can't conservatives be funny but they're going for satire, a more difficult subset of comedy? This should be funny but not the kind of funny they'll be going for.

The Daily Show goes were the comedy is first, politics second, and any sort of their own bias is a distant third.  Their funniest bits lately have been about Anthony "Carlos Danger" Wiener, the ACA website, and Toronto mayor Rob Ford.

This show, like most terribly unfunny partisan political humor (on both sides), is probably going to go bias first, politics second, and comedy dead farking last.

That's why it's mistaken for a liberal show, because most of the stupid shiat to be made fun of just happens to be by Republicans.

I think what makes conservative comedy so successful is that it is often brimming with original creative ideas that are in no way derivative or redundant.  Its not like they only stole once-fresh liberal ideas and rehashed them with a conservative bent.

I mean, consider the premise of this show.  An hour of news!  In a half an hour!  It's a take on the whole 'News Hour' moniker, you see.  And by it only being half an hour, well that's where you build in the irreverence right there.   We're being funny right in the title, how could this not be good?

tvseriesfinale.com

I mean, it's not like this show was derivative of this:

thumbs1.ebaystatic.com

...Or that it seems awfully familiar to the name of this...

Which seems to have the balls to reference an actual groundbreaking and prescient news/comedy program, This Hour has Seven Days,The godfather of both genres like 60 minutes and The Daily Show.

I'm sure that this will go swimmingly, though.

Something about conservative politics and comedy just don't work.  Look at Dennis Miller, he was once one of the funniest guys on the circuit, then he started getting into conservative politics and now he just comes off as a bitter old man.

Yeah, he was one of my favorite comedians in the 1990s. I thought it was hilarious when he co-hosted the NFL and gave all these arcane references that no one got. Then on 9/12/2001 he became a mouth breather who made the Blue Collar Comedy guys sound like George Carlin by comparison.

Here's a "sizzle reel" of the aforementioned program:

"Look at Harrison Ford explaining Global Warming. He's one of those Hollyweirdos. Herp-a-derp-a-derp"

How about calling it "The Potato: Presented by Hoveround?"

I thin the failure of a lot of the conservative "humor" I've seen so far is that it seems to want to be careful to not do anything that would hurt its side.  Like, for example, in the past couple of weeks, The Daily Show has been just hammering the Obama Administration over the rollout of Obamacare.  Will this conservative "satire" show mock the Tea Party or the foibles of the Republicans in Congress as hard? Or will it be all about "sticking it to the libs"?

after viewing their sizzle reel that someone else posted, it was very much a "Sticking it to the libs" thing; but I think you already knew that.

maybe conservatives would be more funny if they didn't try to be in competition with Liberals? Otherwise they make these shows with a huge chip on their shoulder and every joke they make comes off extremely mean-spirited, spiteful, and completely missing the point of the argument being put forth by the other side.

when i think conservative comedy i think Greg Gutfeld, who may hold the title of unfunniest man in the world.

I suspect that Jack Chick is really a brilliant satirist mocking the mondern fundamentalist movement. Just because some of his tracts are so bizarre they become hilarious.
/Dick Hafer is even worse.
//And the Truth For Youth, which is drawn is a bizarrely anime-like style. Because nothing says "repressed homosexual" like drawing anime-influenced Chick Tracts.

The biggest problem I've experienced with "Conservative Humor" is that the themes and subject have all been worn down and thread bare from everyone's Drunk Uncle that they all seem completely hack.  When Dennis Miller got his radio show I tuned in out of curiosity to see if he was at least funny.   He spent 45 minutes on the UN by making French surrender jokes.  Wow, French Surrender jokes ... what a fresh take.  That's some cutting edge, mind blowing stuff.   Now stay tuned for some DMV jokes.

2013-11-16 03:10:05 PM
Good, I haven't been getting my fill of teleprompter jokes lately

2013-11-16 03:21:01 PM
I'm not a comedian, but I just think this stuff should be funny first and conservative second; looking at the demo reel, it looks like it's trying to be conservative first and funny second. This basically puts it with such comedy legends as Charles Krauthammer, who occasionally tries to be witty in his columns, but whom no one would ever consider a comedian.

Conservatives try to go for Gotchas. "Obamacare rollout, what's that all about, man?" They basically make jokes the same way they debate. I tossed out a tweet about Sarah Palin a couple of days ago, and some guy I never heard of and don't even know (so why the hell is he following my twitter feed) said "Well, at least she knows how many states there are; Obama said there were 57 and he went to Harvard #tcot."

I mean, how do you not think, "Really? A 57-states joke? That's what you've got? That's all you've got?"

The guy in the demo reel, what'shisname, who talked about people coming up to him after the show and whispering their agreement with the truth of his onstage assertions, accidentally shone a light onto why this show is going to be buried with the Half Hour News Hour and every other attempt at "balancing" shows like the Daily Show and the Colbert Report. He is literally telling people that he can't get a laugh onstage with this material that he is building a television show around. There is no part of his brain that is saying "A broadcast audience will not fix the inherent problem with the material." It's caught up in its truth-to-power ego trip and not spending enough time being funny.

2013-11-16 03:27:34 PM
Why did Obama cross the road?

Because Bengazi isn't there!

Why are Democrats afraid of Republicans?

Because they're the real racists!

Knock knock? Who's there? Illegals. Illegals who? DEPORT ALL OF THE MINORITIES!

peasandcarrots: I'm not a comedian, but I just think this stuff should be funny first and conservative second

That's what the other guy in this thread was saying. The guy in the video mentioned Colbert and Stewart a few times. They play video of stupid shiat that republicans (and also democrats and independents) say or do and make fun of it. They don't have routines like "What's the deal with these evil republicans and their being all rich and stuff?".

/surprised that guy even understood that Colbert was playing a conservative character

Expecting the hallmark joke of the pilot to be irrelevantly about Kim Kardashian and the punchline involving sleeping with black men. Because that's the biggest problem with her.

Yes, the problem is that the comedians are Liberal, not that the folks who keep spouting things are ridiculous...

Dennis Miller was always a rightist stooge, just no one publicly realized it until the country went apeshiat post-911 and promoted anything right wing they could find.

Look, you got talk radio locked up.  Go tell bad jokes there.

The essence of humor is truth.

'Conservative' humor by its very nature cannot be funny, because 'conservatives' are wrong about everything.

Everything.

They'll say "our target audience couldn't find the show because they have their TV's locked on Fox News and our show aired on the local commie ABC/NBC station."
