I'm guessing the joke is that latex condoms are vegan already. I'm going to go out and make fair trade condoms.

I'm surprised a vegan has the strength to even get firm enough to wear one.  Impressive.

There's a joke in that headline, I know it!

Oh! Because vegans tend to miscarry! Ha ha!

Is that it?

She likes meat with a bone?

She prefers meat 'bone-in'?

The only meat she'll eat is bone-in?

She loves every bone in her body, including mine?

A friend of mine had been vegan for over 15 years.  She took supplements to cover the necessary proteins and vitamins missing from meat.  Her husband and she had tried almost everything to get pregnant, spending tons of $$$s for fertility treatments that had awful side effects, but to no avail.  Within a year of adding meats to her diet, my friend's period came back, and was able to conceive.  Though the pregnancy has been difficult, she's expecting in a few months.

It wasn't necessarily the meat that did it.  It was probably the fat.  Low body fat = interrupted or irregular menses.  Happens to a lot of top-tier female athletes.

The substrate the body uses to make sex hormones is saturated fat (and cholesterol). Hard to make those things when you don't have the materials. You can get some types of saturated fat from plant foods, but not all of the right ones.

Than it sounds like she could have gotten back to regular without eating an animal, but instead having eggs or milk products.

Which aren't allowed in vegan diets.

Ladies, I garuntee that if you're willing to eat meat and consume some protein, you'll never get pregnant.

You can definitely synthesize your own cholesterol, which is why statins are so popular.

Indeed they aren't allowed as vegans.  However, I'd expect that having animal products would be a lesser violation of her ethics (assuming her veganism was ethical/morally motivated in the first place anyway).

Indeed. You synthesize more cholesterol in a day than most people ever eat in a day. Which makes me wonder why people freak out about dietary cholesterol.

Generally, lacto-ovo vegetarians do fine. If they didn't, India wouldn't have a billion people in it.
You won't find too many large populations of strict vegans though.

They are starting to realize that dietary cholesterol, at least certain types is not at all detrimental.  Seems to take a long time to turn that ship though.

Yup.  Keep dairy and eggs in your diet and the human body has no problems.  Which makes sense if you think about how many of us are descended from cow/goat/sheep herders.  Our ancestors couldn't afford to eat animal protein all the time like we do, but between milk and eggs, they got all the protein/fats they needed.
