I wonder if Republicans will ever realize that the word "conservative" means something different to almost everyone else in the world.

Most latinos are relatively conservative but, their conservatism does not mean automatically "government bad!" That's an odd tic of white American conservatives.

African-Americans are also, in many ways, pretty conservative, but, once again, they don't buy into the odd and historically  and globally deviant version of conservatism pushed by white Americans.

/Of course they'll never figure that out. It would require at least a minimal amount of self-reflection.

Evangelical pastor....  Stopped reading right there.

This is a guy whose career/life depends on persuading people to believe an imaginary invisible sky wizard who controls everything, and presumably believes it himself. There is no reason to expect that what he thinks has any connection with reality.

His full employment for the Spanish-surnamed will run out as soon as the name Christian is obliterated replaced by the name Cruz in all the mega churches.

It's just the white man's Cruz to bear.

and then in the late 50's early 60's the Democrats decided to go against the wishes of the racist southern Dixiecrats and support the civil rights act, ending segregation. That's when the Dixiecrats jumped parties and right into the open arms of the GOP. And now they control the Republican party thanks to the Southern Strategy and people like Buchanan,Atwater and Rove who courted the racists and the religious right.

Don't forget Falwell, and this classic quote just days after 911:

And, I know that I'll hear from them for this. But, throwing God out successfully with the help of the federal court system, throwing God out of the public square, out of the schools. The abortionists have got to bear some burden for this because God will not be mocked. And when we destroy 40 million little innocent babies, we make God mad. I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People For the American Way--all of them who have tried to secularize America--I point the finger in their face and say "you helped this happen."

Castro hate is good. More people should hate him.

If we had common sense to go with the hate, we would have lifted the embargo decades ago to stop helping him stay in power. The only communist countries left are ones we don't trade with.

As a southerner, you got it right. I know white people on welfare who can't stand the thought of black or Hispanic people getting the same treatment. The worst was one of my brothers friends. Back at the start of the recession he got laid off from his plumbing job because he wouldn't take a $2/hr pay cut (he would have gone down to $16.50/hr), so he applied for unemployment and food stamps. Then the motherfarker decides he's better off on welfare and passed on more than a few job opportunities because of that, and all the while he's biatching about how our country's going broke because black people would rather be on welfare than get a job. But it was different for him, he had circumstances, you see.

Let me guess, he also says things like "A white man can't get no help" or "You gotta be black to get on welfare" without a hint of self-awareness or irony? I know several redneck mouthbreathers on SSI, food stamps, etc, who say shiat like that constantly.

I'm guessing it's the old "Dems think blacks are too stupid to realize what's for their own good, and they tell blacks what to do instead of helping them be bootstrappier". Which, of course, tells blacks what to do because it assumes they're too stupid.

I did have to use the Googles to verify that, though...since he's politically dead after his disastrous endorsement endorsement of McCain, which introduced him to a wider audience...as a bigoted piece of shiat.

"I'm sure I'm not the only male in America who, when Palin dropped her first wink, sat up a little straighter on the couch and said, "Hey, I think she just winked at me." And her smile. By the end, when she clearly knew she was doing well, it was so sparkling it was almost mesmerizing. It sent little starbursts through the screen and ricocheting around the living rooms of America. This is a quality that can't be learned; it's either something you have or you don't, and man, she's got it." ~ Rich Lowry, Editor of the National Review, aka the Conservative Thinktank Magazine of Record started by William F Buckley Jr.

This is exactly what I've seen from at least a half dozen self-described Republicans I've worked with over the years who have lost their jobs.  Can't wait to get on unemployment because they EARNED it, but everyone else is just mooching.
